Inserting a CD/DVD pops up with E\ not found

But the CD/DVD drive E shows the complete list with contents.
In the Configurationscreen Autoplay for all devices is put to autoplay standard settings WMP (for audio)

A CD/DVD with for instance programs or random data shows correct the list with options.

The problem has to do with Windows Mediaplayer.
If I select DVD 11 as standard program it's working OK.

Real player is also working.

It's not that I can't exess that drive.
It only fails with WMP (media player)
Real player is working fine.
If you choose not to autorun the menu with maps etc could be selected etc.
Clicking on the drive is allright.

But perhaps an entry may be missing?
It should start WMP if selected in autoplay mode.

If you start WMP previously, you can play that drive from the program features.

Where can I find the link between the application and WMP?

Could it be that changing the drive letter may have caused this problem?

E is the correct drive letter with de CD/DVD.

Did you change the drive letter? Because, yes, that can, and often will cause this problem. If you changed the drive letter, and the original drive letter is not in use, try changing it back and see if it works OK then.

You might try going to autoplay settings and restoring all defaults in lower left, since WMP is causing the issue. If it works, you can manually change any other autoplay settings.

You should be able to change the drive letter to anything unused except A or B, but sometimes programs save setting based on where they were installed from. So if the drive was D: when you installed, and you changed it to E:, the application may not recognize the drive. A Guy

I understand thank you. Have to check that.
What I found is that some of the standard programs are not displayed in the list.
For instance Winamp. Is there a way to add programs to that list?

I think that the link may have been damaged to autostart the WMP. application.

Changing the drive letter to Z gave no resolve.

I changed Winamp options to play all associated audiofiles.
Then I adopted Winamp as standard player.
Winamp appears now in the menu CD/DVD autoplay options.
So in a way it solved the problem.

The problemanalyser of Windows indicated a configurationproblem for Windows Mediaplayer????

I found out that some Register strings or keys related to WMP or WMP 11 lack the proper terms?

For instance, maybe a good example?
"%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:6 /Open "%L"
or
"%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:4 /device:VCD "%L"
or
"%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /Open "%L"

Some, at least a dozen, don't show the (x86) folder indication

I found at least 75 links in the register.
Running W7 on a 64 bits computer.

WMP is installed in the 64 bits folder, as well as the x86 folder?

Some suggest to erase or modify MountPoint2 settings?
Anyway autoplay on WMP won't work.

If I select in explorer to play a CD it says I have no access or authority?

There is something that keeps me busy
During a scan with Regseeker it found an entry that can't be correct
"%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /Play
Found under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{ed1d0fdf-4414-470a-a56d-cfb68623fc58}\LocalServer32
Perhaps it is linked with the failing autoplay of windows media player?

Regseeker found at least 9 of such entries with:
"%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /Play "%L"

All those keys are correct. I would run the System File Checker and see if it finds and corrects any errors

Perhaps try associating WMP

I've tried that already A Guy
There is even an associated Microsoftservice program that would correct Windowsmediapayer reg.strings, but it won't solve the problem.
The only way is to associate another program like WinDVD, or another audioplayer.
There has been a dispute of experts about these strings which in 64 bits can cause problems with the also available 32 bits version installed. There is no way to test what and where it activates or fails.
Most common cause is installing or changing a device and it's address.
But uninstall and re-install the device also didn't work.
I don't want to reïnstall the whole crap for just that.

Thank's for your reply, saves me more thinking.

Found the solution to this problem.
Go to Control Panel/ windows features/ Media Features –> Windows Media Player.
Uncheck Windows Media Player, wait for several minutes for the menu to reboot.
After reboot, go to the same settings en turn Windows Media Player back on.

To my suprise it worked out right, just putting in a CD. and yes, Windows Media Player finally started playing.
Also with a data DVD, it opens correct with a menu or the options to explore etc.

Typical was that on another pc with the same W7 about 300 strings were found for Mediaplayer with Regseeker, where on the problem pc only 39 were found ??

After restart of Mediaplayer 49 strings were found, so some must have been missing.
