Avast and MSE..

A lot people use them together, I'm just wondering should i turn real time protection off on one of them since windows 7 warns me of having two antiviruses running thanks!

It is not advisable to have more than one antivirus program running at once.

You generally won't be any more protected than if you just had one and you'll end up with all sorts of firewall issues etc. down the road, plus your system has to handle 2 big programs running in the background at once doing pretty much the same thing, this could leed to a drop in performance.

Oli is correct. This is one case where more is not better.

Hallo Kevin, Avast was apparently developed to run alongside MSE as you can see in this thread;

But i have to agree with the others, i would disable the resident protection in one of them & just use it as a stand alone scanner

Thanks a lot cause when i surf these forums i read that a lot of people run them both along side each other... Was not sure if they just used the scanner as a standalone 2n'd layer of protection thanks again !

Hello Kevin, I run both as I wasn't sure which one I would actually go with after some testing. So recently I decided to go with avast but have real time protection off within MSE. I keep MSE updated and run a scan every now and then... If MSE picks up something that avast misses, then I will likely switch over... GL
