Avast information box

I have a green box in the lower right hand corner that says avast Information. It is always there unless I manually close it. But then a few minutes later it is back. It tells me my virus definitions have been automatically updated. I am running windows 7. Is there a way to get rid of that box? Thanks

For Avast 6 only.
Follow instructions below. If they do not work, go to Control Panel > Uninstall a program > click on the Avast icon > drop down and select repair. Hope that helps.

I cannot find any of the places you tell me to go. There is no confirmation page or solutions page and the only page I can find is the configuration page. When I go to the control panel I cannot figure out what to click. None of them resemble yours.

In my emails I see a message from the forum. I click on the page and there is nothing there. I was closing down my computer and the confirmation box was there and the "Manage" (first box) was already unchecked. But do you know why I am not finding the new messages. I am afraid I unclicked something by mistake. Thanks

One way that I know will work - replace Avast! with another AV

Before we were so extreme, do the following:
1 - have the Avast installer on hand;
2 - download Avast Uninstall Utility and follow the instructions below.

1. Start Windows in Safe Mode
2. Open (execute) the uninstall utility
3. If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
4. Click REMOVE
5. Restart your computer
6. Reinstall Avast.

Let us know the results.

I got avast remove just fine.I cannot find where a free download of AVG is? Either they won' download them at all or I get to the end and then they want me to pay. But as I said, most of them won't even download..

Who spoke on AVG?...
And what did you do after you uninstall Avast?...

I meant to say I couldn't find a download of avast, they were all free trials. I finally found one, I think - let you know in 30 days since that is when they seem to expire, you get a 30 day free trial. So I will just have to wait and see.
Can you imagine how much wasted junk is in computers. Would love to get rid of it all. Have a clean computer without having to reinstall windows 7. Thank you.

You needed to Google Avast free download. I always look for the CNET result for what I want, as the manufacturer sometimes tries to hide the free version or make it confusing to get one.

I got one loaded that I did google I don't know if it passes CNET standards, but after trying the first six on in the row, I finally took the first one that went through. Does the site where you download it from make a difference.

Only if you want to be sure to get the free version. It sounds like you might have instead gotten a 30 day trial of the paid version. I guess you can wait to see if you need to swap it out.

Let's clarify what free trial means in the Avast case:

1 - Avast Free Antivirus
after installing it, you have 30 days to register it for free, or it stops updating the virus definitions after this test period;

2 - Avast Professional and Avast Internet Security
after installing it, you have 30 days to buy a license, or it stops updating the virus definitions after this test period;

3 - In both cases above, all features will be available during the trial period.
