I know nothing about pc other than from behind the key board and the screen.
I know I have windows 7 home and a HP pc but apart from that I am without much knowledge.

I acquired an Avira anti virus premium on 30 day approval basis, firefox browser and Thunderbird email. All was well until the Thunderbird email suddenly swallowed all my emails and permanently deleted them automatically before my eyes.

I then discovered that the Avira was switched off, and refused to allow me to switch it back on. I tried to delete it but it will not allow me to delete, shows "error 7" The last entry in its registry says "APPCRASH" I tried to download another anti virus, but refuses to allow another anti virus to load. I tried to load a Norton file checker, but this failed and instead invoked the Microsoft windows malware removal tool, which found one bad file and removed it (EXP/JAVA Ternub.Gen) I am able to use everything including internet, and PC seems , if anything, to be running faster than it was before. I would like to get rid of anti virus and renew with working one if possible.

Thank you for quick response. Did this, same error 7 message won't allow me to delete. Had to turn off pc by unplugging and switch on again to get safe mode to work as F8 doesn't seem to respond either.

I would suggest looking into bootable antivirus programs: Free Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs Download List

I'll provide you with the easiest to use of that group:

Thank you for attempting to help me. I have done as you suggest, I now have a usb with the information from the system sweeper, but it asks me to boot from the usb; a simple task no doubt to those who know, but after six attempts to do this, I am still sitting at square one.

By the way, I had to use a usb because the dvd wont operate now either.

Do you know how to enter your BIOS? You can change the boot order in there to boot from the USB. You may have to enabled booting from external devices first.

F10 is the key for getting into the BIOS on HPs. Tap it a few times when the computer first turns on.

You can also reach a boot menu using the Esc key. Tap the Esc. key a few times when the computer first turns on.
