I may be changing my anti virus from Avira Pro to another. I have a desktop pc. I seem to remember when doing this in the past that it wasn't enough to just go to the list of programs on my PC's control panel and delete/uninstall it. It was an antivirus from another company not Avira, but I recall I actually had to use a proper uninstaller programme from the anti virus company.

The thinking seemed to be that just deleting the programme may still leave traces of the old anti virus lurking in the deeper recesses of my computer, and these may interfere with the new anti virus.

So, should I use an uninstalling programme to properly remove Avira? Is there anything else I should do?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks, that's great. Just what I needed to know.

One last question. Is it safe for me to first uninstall the Avira a/v - then open my web browser to visit the Avast site to download their a/v? My thinking is that between deleting the old and installing the new I will be unprotected for a short time whilst on the internet. Or is it not a problem?

I would download the Avast installer first, then remove Avira. Then install Avast. If the uninstaller and installer will allow it, I would disconnect from the internet during the process. If not, the time between uninstalling and installing is not likely to be a problem. In either case, run a full scan immediately after installing.
