Hi All
Have just had BT Infinity fibre optic 76-80Mbs installed, I'm running Win7 64bit with all updates, mobo is about 7 years old (Asus M2N-SLi) but...........................speed on internet is virtually like the old dial up days, my NIC is 10/100/1000, so what could be throttling my internet, have tried Chrome (my default is Firefox), I'm committed to this contract for a further 18 months, have been in touch with BT, who inform me that I have to wait until a settling in period as elapsed!!!!!!, it's just some wire for heavens sake, thank goodness my radio/tv/bluray player/mobile phone doesn't have to settle in. Is there anything I can do until this settling period is over, your thoughts most appreciated.

Hi ... It can take some time before things start to settle down ... How ever if things do not improve and as you are under Contract your ISP has to up hold their end of the Contract also failure to do so means you have the right to take action ..

I do agree you would think it should be instant .. I believe it takes a few Days with your ISP ... I used to be with them also had a very bad experience and switched providers ...

Once again, thanks. Installed on 29th December, will give it 14 days, I think that's fair, then if no improvement will put a bit of stick about.

The Red one is for using with the BT modem (particularly for real fibre)

maxie, I'm usually quite savvy with computers, being playing & building them since windows 95, have always been with BT, and must admit have been impressed with their broadband ( one mile away from exchange), but never had a modem so to speak.
Years ago I had the blue rubber thing (dolphin like) then Hub 1, 2, 3 & 5, so the Wlan on rear of hub is to be used with separate modem!, why would anyone want that when the Dsl goes to it's own socket. Dsl socket is I believe rj45 cable & Wlan is cat 5e, so from my wall socket should I have rj45 and the other end have Cat5e to plug into my Wlan socket for a better speed, your thoughts most appreciated.

I totally agree with you Peter ... I can not see any reason why it would or even should be used ... I doubt very much that changing your setup would improve your speed ...

Must admit seems a wee bit quicker today. Which speed test do you use?, some them seem to vary quite a bit.
