Hi, I just installed windows 7 ultimate with the custom option but have lost all my documents, files and programms from home premium and I liked home premium better. Is there a way of getting back to home premium and retrieving my files

Hello Paul,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

If you didn't format the partition that you installed to, you should have a folder called Window.old. This contains all the files from your previous install.

Hello Paul, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The important question is did you format your hard disk before or during the installation or not?

If you formatted, everything is lost. If not, you should see a folder called Windows.old on your C: drive. This folder contains your old Home Premium installation. You can copy your personal files from there to your personal folders. The programs you had are lost, you have to reinstall everything. Microsoft has also published information about how to restore your previous Windows setup using windows.old folder.

Next time when upgrading your system, please remember to backup all your data before installing a new OS.
