I have just used the online upgrade to take my netbook from W7 Starter edition to Home premium, what I would like to know is if the W7 back up program is the same as Acronis, as if I use the Samsung recovery, it will take me back to the Starter edition.
Or is there some other way?.

If you now have Win7 Home Premium and do an image based backup... you get just that... an image of Win7 as it currently exists on your system. Just as if you ran Acronis.

Welcome,

If you use system image, now and you try to restore six months from now, you will return to what you have now.

Many members feel that it is wise to save a system image back up on an external hard drive, in the event of a hard drive failure in the future you will not even have to reinstall. You have the saved image. The image will have all of your programs, settings and everything else.

It may be wise to update the backup every month or so (depending on usage) so that if used it will not be too old.

Good luck

Thanks for your answers, on my main computer i have acronis and do an image every month.
I had to make sure that using the W7 back up was the equivalent of using Acronis, as the Samsung restore would have took it back to the starter edition.

With the upgrade, there is a possiblity that the ability to return to factory specs is no longer available. The partition with the information may remain, but in some, not all cases, the potential to make the change is no longer available, due to the new install. The information contained in that restore partition may have been erased.
