Hello everyone,
I have a 1TB hard drive on my PC and a few months ago I bought another 1TB hard drive as a backup drive.

I back up every week or so using the windows disk image facility (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/663-backup-complete-computer-create-image-backup.html?ltr=B) , but each time I backup the space taken up on the backup drive increases drastically. It would appear to be backing up up ANOTHER image instead of overwriting the new one?

I canot find anywhere to say over-write the existing image, would I be better to delete the image before creating a new one?
Many thanks,
Simon

Are you using the option in space management to just keep one image?

I tried all of that -- no joy

Hi I'm having the same issue, backup fills up in just a few days, and then the warning.

I tried the manage space/system image/change options, I'm given only two:

1. Let Windows manage the space for backup history (279.44gb)

and:

2:keep only the latest system image and minimize space used for backup

in both cases, it still fills up my external hard drive within a few days. It makes only one backup set, so I must delete the entire back up, and then run a new backup. And then within a few days it is full and I get the warning again.

I have 5.o6g on my c drive, and the backup drive is 1tb, so I don't get why this is such a problem?

From my searches on google, a solution does not seem hopeful. If microsoft can't fix this, can anyone recommend an alternative, more simpler, automated alternative?

Sincerely and Thanks,

Isn't this because System Restore stuff has throttled the max allowable disk space on your backup partition???

IIRC, there's some command to display the max allowable disk space to be used for Shadow and System Image-related stuff.

I always manage my images myself. I just delete the old images I do not care to keep. But I use free Macrium - Windows imaging is too unreliable for me.
