Barebones computer freezzes after pro tools install

I got a barebones computer from magicmicro.com 4 months ago with these specs:

OS Windows 7
CPU Intel i-5 2500k 3.3 GHZ 115 Unlocked
Motherboard MSI H67MS-E43 1155, SATA3, DVI + HDMI
Memory DDR3, Kit = 8GB PC10600/1333MHz (2pc. of 4GB)
Graphics Card(s) Geforce GTX 570 1280MB
Sound Card AC 97 Direct 3D Sound Intergrated
Hard Drives 500GB Seagate Sata3, 6gb/s 16MB Cache
PSU Ultra 750W SLI Ready
Case Cooler Master Elite 310 black/blue,Neon

It worked pretty awesome. Before I installed Pro tools, occasionally when I would put it in sleep mode it would turn off by itself a few hours later. This did not happen very often tho.
So a few days ago I got Pro Tools M-Powered 9. This is a version which should be compatable with Windows 7 64 bit. After it was installed and restared, Pro Tools worked perfectly. I used it for 4 hours or so and shut down my computer when I was done. The next day when I turned on my computer, it froze at the windows logo screen. I was only able to get to my desktop through safe mode and I uninstalled pro tools the proper way with the cd. After I uninstalled it my computer worked that night, but the next day I had the same freezing problem. So I dont know if this is because of pro tools or my computer parts dont match up well and it was a matter of time until this would happen. I dont even know what customer service to call: pro tools? MSI? Windows? eitherway im sure all of their customer service would suck. Any bright ideas would be great.

Have you done a System Restore to a time prior to installing Pro Tools?

With any luck, that will get rid of any problems due solely to Pro Tools.

Not sure about the earlier problem of turning off when in sleep mode. Have you any exclamation marks or errors noted in Device Manager? Have you done a system file check by running sfc /scannow from a command prompt?

I'd guess Pro Tools has their own forum, but you might try a post in the sound section of this forum and hope to get an answer from member "Fireberd". He is a musician who has a lot of PC and studio recording experience and may have experience with Pro Tools.

I dont know this is really wierd. I ran system restore before I uninstalled pro tools and that deleted the desktop shortcut to pro tools; the instal files were still in pro tools folder ex. program files/blah blah blah.

The thing is, sometimes my computer will run normal, (internet, files, apps) for ten minutes or so until it freezes. Other times it wont even get past the windows logo. Sometimes I can go into safe mode, other times it will freeze while trying to load safe mode.

I have not tried sfc/scannow because I cant get safe mode to work now. Although, I tried that once on my laptop and I didnt really know how to use the sfc/scannow functions or interpret the results.

Ill post this in the sound section and probably a pro tools fourm too. But I dont think that this is caused by pro tools. If so than uninstalling it should have fixed it and also I dont really think I should have gotten a barebones where I custom pick each part if im not a computer guru. The customer service for magicmicro.com said all the parts matched but I dont think they put that much effort into being certain of that.

Regarding sfc /scannow, all you have to do is run it and see if it finds errors. If it does, run it again until it doesn't find errors. In some cases, it cannot fix the errors.

I'd also test the RAM, using Memtest86. Burn it to a disc, boot from the disc, and let it run for 6 or 8 passes--it might take overnight to complete.

Do you show any errors in Device Manager?

Do you have any spare parts that are known to be good that you could swap in as a test, such as another power supply?

Are you overclocking at all?

Are your BIOS settings at defaults or have they been modified?

scannow says it did not find any integrity problems.

I dont have another 750W power supply but its not like my computer is shutting off. I can get safe mode to work sometimes and it wont freeze at all. As far as all the other parts, I cant really start interchanging them all. Besides, it was the installation of pro tools which started this mess, seems more like a software issue.

And I have not messed with my bios settings. Although, if I leave a usb in when I turn on my computer it will try to boot from that first and end up with no bootable partition found. This is easily fixed by taking out the usb but mabey my bios was not correctly set up in the first place. Ive never messed with BIOS so I wouldnt know anyways.

And as far as the ram goes. I would play RAM intensive video games, although i do have a geforce video card, and it seems find. Also, it was pro tools that started this so I dont think its a hardware issue.

Is the sleep issue gone now?

Or unimportant?

Or?

If all problems were purely due to Pro Tools, I would normally expect a System Restore to resolve the issue.

Well the sleep problem is what makes me think that my problems might not be not soley due to pro tools.
This is not a bootlegged version of pro tools so on any other computer it should have worked; which i guess i should try.

Ive already done a system restore and it didnt work. But i did not do a system restore after I uninstalled pro tools so ill try that too.

As far as the sleep issue still being there, i cant put my computer to sleep in safe mode and even if i could this would happen mabey once a week. So i would need a week of back and forth going into sleep mode and such to even find out.

Also every time I try to fix it and my computer freezes I have to hold the power button to shut it off. I must have done this 30 times over the last two days. Is this really bad?

I have PT MP9 installed on an older system and there are no problems. I also have Sonar X1 installed and Sonar is my main recording program.

I would suspect there are other problems and not Pro Tools, it was probably just coincidence that you had the problem after installing Pro Tools.

As a side note, in "tuning" my PC for my recording software, I don't use any Standby/Sleep modes. The only thing I do is "power off" (logically) the monitor after 30 minutes. My "power" setting is High Performance. Once you get the basic PC problems fixed you can then tweak the system for best recording performance. Avid has some suggestions for tweaking a system. Focusrite, although primarly for firewire devices, has some system tweaking suggestions too on their web site.

I have a feeling its not just pro tools that is the problem. Im gonna take my computer to a friend of mine who is an IT guy and he has been fixing viruses and other problems for my other computers over the past few years. Hopefully he will be able to figure something out.
