the only way for you to get that utility in win 7 is to install that setup.exe under XP compatibility mode. Tho not sure why you want to install it, as its not needed at all. With it being installed i have seen a few issues early on, tho now i disabled it (i think) and dont have those funky issues with the adapter. It still drops connection tho from time to time sporadically, but so does my ethernet/nvidia controller (more rare, but its happened a time or two in the past two weeks). Once correct drivers are written, and this wont happen until RTM hits, and developers will then, hopefully go back thru their hardware and write specific win 7 drivers, rather than relying on MS to "fix them" and hand them back out thru Updates. Since that apparently hasnt worked for them as well as they had hoped.

I was using the XP SP2 mode, after further review here, I now recall uninstalling that, and cant remember if i reinstalled using Vista SP2 comp mode OR before i recently deleted my 7000 part i saved my driver "athrusb.sys" that WAS working fine under beta, with the with a date of 1/29/2007. The one you have. The driver that i copied from the 7000 part was from an install under regular Vista comp mode. There was no option for SP2 for 7000. I have since wired up the house, and only get on the belkin now when i have time to play with it and the patience or if someone posts a solution/issue. I also have a trendnet adapter that acts the same way as the belkin, maybe a bit worse, if you can believe that, lol.

I did manage to find the CD in the garage. Tho this was bought loooong ago, probably has one of the first driver packages written, most likely XP, maybe Vista, but doubt anything for 64bit (which i havent tested out either yet). So unless i get real bored and up in arms, i may throw that in and see.

If you do happen to install under XP modes, the driver will then be a BLKWGU.sys with a 2005 date

it works pretty well both with the CD drivers and with the v.4010 from the site, both installed under vista compatibility mode and without any compatibility, there seems to be no difference.
I dont really want the utility, I was just checkin if anyone managed to install it under curiosity.

Im currently running the belkin under adhoc mode for nearly 4 days now, and it only disconnected once, and Im not entirely sure if its the Vista laptop or the Belkin that is to blaim. If I can get the bloomin WPA to work Ill be happy

Completely unrelated to Belkin, I think MS adhoc implementation is generally a bit shoddy. The password when inputed at the setup screen isnt by default obscured by dots, and even if you do tick the box obscuring it (located on the right of the field, instead of the left for usability), in the confirmation page that comes up next its completely clear text! a real no no with over shoulder watching. Sometimes I really wonder what the hell MS is doing.

Well, how far are you connecting the ad-hoc? this distance isnt far by default, 30ft/10m. So my guess is that since the driver just by infrastructure connection is a little shotty at best, i would say that if the distance is is a bit shorter than it suggests. To be safe i would say almost half, at best 2/3 with the current driver.

As far as WPA, it works via infrastructure, tho seemed to squabble with WPA2 on this network. "Seemed" to drop connection a bit more. Also ended up switching to WPA since the use of some wireless consoles not having WPA2 capability.

I agree with the password/clear text point. THis has been up for discussion and flamed, tarred and feathered. Cant understand this is still an issue as well. Not only that, but it doesnt seem to autosave your password if you do not "auto connect" tick.

I cant really test it with proper infrastructure, as the whole point of fidling about with ad hoc and ICS is to overcome my ISP limitations, which doesnt allow routers on its network.
The distance is literaly non, the laptop and pc with the Belkin are just inches from each other. I have raised the issue with belkin support, have got some responces and I just clarified that its with ad hoc that the problem appears. Im waiting for a new responce soon..

wow. dont understand the philosophy behind not allowing the use of a router. How you use your connection and its bw thats limited per line/node or if by distance wouldnt matter how many devices you have, as if more devices would use more bandwidth. Talk about a nutcracker isp. Why not run the modem thru a simple nix box then out to router/switch.... assuming you having a throw-together cheap pc laying around or one that you could get your hands on cheaply...

ask them when they plan on writing a complete driver for win 7 while you are at it lol

well heres the catch: theres no modem; its one of those residential ISP's specific for student residenses, and their reason for this is that they dont wont devises that do DHCP on their network. They unfortunately do check, and are allowed to disconnect you if they see a router. Another limit is that only one mac address is allowed online, you actually get a different DNS suffix if youre not registered with them, so the only viable solution was this. (before you talk about MAC cloning it doesnt work )

well Ill post any advances in the case (hopefully something will come up). In the meanwhile can anyone confirm that the Belkin works properly (i.e, with WPA) in Vista x64 ad hoc??

i had same problem with f5d7050 adapter none of the versions would work i ended up finding one on the belkin driver support site its the driver right at the bottom of the page where it says driver only i have just looked for it again but i cannot find it but i did a torrent for it but this forum wont let me do the link just search in well known torrent site driver usb adapter



you can try to find it yourself it is there or just use the torrent windows will manage your adapter as this is driver only it works great on my sons desktop with windows 7 hope it helps

Tested the workaround for installing Belkin drivers.

I just tested installing a Belkin F5D8055 Wireless USB Network adapter on the RTM version of Win7. I got the drivers from the Belkin site as a selfextracting EXE. First time I ran the exe it said I was not running Vista and closed the setup. I then did the fallowing steps and it is now working fine for me.

1. Downloaded selfextracting EXE from Belkin Web site. Download the Vista version of the driver.
2. Right click on the file and choose Properties.
3. Click on the Compatibility tab at the top.
4. Check the compatibility box and choose "Windows Vista".
5. Check the "Run this program as an administrator" box.
6. Click ok and try running the EXE again.

When I did that it ran without errors and forced one reboot. Life is Good.

Thank Goodness - Fixed my problem

I had given up, had a phone line running across the house to get DSL modem next to my HTPC. What worked for me ....

Uninstalled belkin drivers, deleted any belkin files
Reboot
Plug in Adapter, Win7 can't find/install driver
Right Click Adapter in Device Manager -> Update Driver
Browse My Computer for driver
Went to my original Belkin CD and chose the folder ... E:\InstallationFiles\Vista64

Presto, no .exe, no re-boot, posting this with Wireless N USB Adapter

First of all, I have been a long time lurker in this forum and I want to thank you all guys for your input.
I am now running Windows 7 32bit upgrade version but on a clean install. I have actually installed the 64bit first but found out that my current Firewall/Antivirus dorsn't work on 64bit so I installed 32bit.

I am actually dual booting, Windows 7 and XP as I'm still testing W7 with all my hardware and softwares. So far so good, Windows 7 runs smoothly and quicker.

Now back to the topic re: Belkin F5D7050. I am in Europe and am using Version 2.
I have tried all the firmwares found on the Belkin website and to my disappointment nothing worked. So I uninstalled everything, deleted the Belking folders on my C drive, reboot, and shoved the CD-rom that came with my USB dongle. Went to device manager, looked for Belkin Wireless USB adapter, then updated firmware pointing to the DVD rom. At last it worked! Im using it now!!!

We have a new PC with Windows 7 and are also trying to install the Belkin drivers; when you run the installation from CD everything seems fine and says installed, but when it says connect your usb device it starts to install and the instantly stops and says driver not installed...
Its a Belkin G usb wireless adapter 802.11g .

Anyone ideas how to solve this problem without having access to internet, as we can't get the router installed:-(

Try troubleshooting the installation. Instead of running the SETUP.EXE program on the CD, right click it and select the troubleshoot option. Select that it worked in earlier versions of Windows, and try Vista SP2 or something similar. Then start the app using the button and see if it works.

We have tried most of the suggestions that have you all have so kindly put forward....unfortunately you have to be online to be able to access any online help! My husband has tried the offline troubleshooting suggestions but is not having much luck at the moment. Surely we shouldn't have to purchase another wireless adapter ..0ntop of the cost of a new computer?


I am using a laptop at the moment, which is great for advice seeking forums such as this
