Best browser for Windows 7 64-bit

What are your guy's opinions on the browser selection for Windows 7?

I'm currently running Firefox 3.5.3, but I'm not happy with its performance in 64-bit Windows. I get a lot of crashes while watching videos, and poor performance (some full screening some videos will result in lag).

Does anyone know if Chrome run better in 7?

I use Chrome 4 and IE8 on a daily basis.

If Chrome had support for 1 button open/close bookmarks like IE does then I would be using full time, but as of right now it seems you have to have that bar for quick access for bookmarks.

Also I wish Chrome had made their own developer tools instead of copying Safari's (WebKit?)

I recently found simple-adblock.com for the IE8 and it works great, so no need for firefox anymore.

protected mode is just another term for private browsing. even with my addons firefox runs circles around ie8. i can understand crome, and opera but never ie.

I think of "protected mode" as being more of a type of sandbox for ie8, protecting systems files from what happens in the web browser.

I understand the reasoning why you believe firefox is a better browser. For you it probably is. A lot of people swear by firefox and I believe its a great browser. To each his own

But I have been convinced that IE8 is a better and more secure browser for me. Now with simnple-adblock for the ie8 browser, the last string keeping me on firefox has been broken.

Combining windows 7 64 bit with IE8, a LUC and a little common sense makes for s very secure system

According to my security guru that hangs out at anandtech named mechbgon ( A security guy that I trust immensly for he dows not want to sell me anything, and who has also created a great website on computer security (mechBgon's guide for first-time PC builders... Best practices for ongoing security) has differing opinion on firefox than you.

Yes, IE8 is more secure because of SmartScreen filter, Protected Mode, and Tab-isolation/ACR, Cross-site scripting filter, Per User and Site ActiveX, Click-jacking protection, and DEP/NX.

I'm not sure if other browsers support all these features.

If you've seen NSS Labs report along with IEBlog's Security series you will see how it performs and what exactly was implemented.

I would bet a 64-bit browser is even more secure because of higher encryption on https:// sites, but no one uses them because no 64-bit Flash.

IE8 is good for IT administrators because of the ease of deployment and management and for end-users in a business environment because of these security enhancements and also familiarity/ease of use.

That said I still use chromium for a open-source standards-compliant portable browser that works on all platforms (linux, mac, windows). From my experience it is the fastest in JavaScript, and doesn't degrade/change in performance between platforms unlike Firefox (between Linux and Windows)

Firefox, I would gladly give up a little speed for the abundance of features that I have in Firefox, you people seem to think that Chrome will always be the speed is now, that's not the case, after time in development when it develops more features it'll get to the same pace as Firefox. Also Google Chrome 'themes' look **** imo.

edit; lol just saw that Chrome STILL doesn't have a decent adblock.

I'm using Google Chrome. The best browser out there! Fast and reliable. I haven't given Opera 10 a shot yet, but it seems like it's got great support with Win 7.

I made Chrome my default browser so when I'm reading my e-mail and I have to click on a link, it comes up fast. A few days ago I compared Chromes cold load time to Opera 10 and found that they both load cold in about 8 seconds on my XPsp3 system. Chrome is too sparce for me to enjoy, so I made Opera my default now and like it better. For my every day browsing I like FF the best (once it loads after 17 seconds). Looking forward to Win 7 in a few months.

you really should upodate your os. this is a win 7 forum after all. i have about 30 firefox addons and when i launch it in win 7 it takes 6 to 8 seconds and my home page is up.

I will have to get a new computer to get WIN 7, so I can't just update. I realize this is a WIN 7 forum, so I'm trying to pick your brains while I wait to get my new box.

Well, it has support for user-scripts, and will have an even bigger repository of them soon.

I think I'll try Fx Minefield the following days. Heard it's faster than Chrome. If it is, I'll go back to the furry fox

i figured i would test minefield tomorrow. all ready downloaded it.

The caveat of 64-bit FF is the same for 64-bit IE. Flash will eventually have a plug-in for it, but currently does not. So you will access certain pages when you do not have functionality.

The real question is what are the major benefits of a 64-bit browser? Don't get me wrong - I love 64-bit apps. But do they resolve pages faster, have greater stability, etc?

that's kind of slow isn't it...I've got similar amount in FF but comes up instantly...looking at your Win7 Eternity? is that a hacked OS?
