Sorry Lady, I didn't mean to put you on the spot, I was really interested in knowing if I could trust Amazon for software. But if you make a statement like that you should be willing to back it up.

Yes I did. No counterfeit software in those links. Only a few people getting "Not Genuine', which can be for a variety of reasons (I have gotten that myself), or not understanding what OEM system builder means, or just plain clueless.

I don't think Amazon censors anything. That is a serious claim that needs some substantiation.

This was a pirated copy!!!!! Very unhappy. Will never buy software online again. Thought it was me, I'm not teckie. Had someone whom is try to install, he said these numbers have already been used.

This copy of Win 7 will not activate. Product key on sticker not the same as key in registry. Microsoft says must not be a valid copy of Windows 7. They say I must buy another Product Key.......

I installed this on the computer that I just built and it says I have just two days to activate and that the product key is not valid. Buy a genuine copy either from your local store or directly from the Microsoft website.

Today November 27 I received a notification from Microsoft that the windows 7 home premium that I purchased Oct 21 is not a genuine and now amazon states that the return time expired two days ago. That really sucks because I had no way of knowing it was not a legal item until today. How convenient for you Amazon to have your expiration timing as such that I am just screwed out of my money due to a bad product issued by you. Tried to find a way to contact you to resolve this issue but your site makes that totally impossible.

(This one is really damning.) Invalid disc. Apparently, an Upgrade disc; No Product Key; No COA provided.

First of all, I have talked with a supervisor at Amazon -- and asked her to take appropriate action. She has agreed to do so. I would advise not ordering this item until the issue is corrected and the inventory is culled of all illegitimate copies.

While there have been many happy customers, a few of us have received invalid or counterfeit copies of this software. I counted 12 reviews indicating `counterfeit' so I figure around 2 percent or less.

This package arrived like a wine bottle filled with water rather than wine. The exterior printing and packaging looked legit. Also, the User's Guide on the inside showed quality printing. However, the disc was upside down with the printed side facing downwards and the recording side facing upwards. There was no Product Key nor COA (Certificate of Authenticity) included. The disc also had faint lines on the recording side that were similar to the water marks that some fabrics will show when they get partially wet. The printing (label) on the disc was Black and White with no other colors used. The disc, near the center is marked, in the plastic, "Made in Puerto Rico" and either "X17-58399(M04W)14" or "X17-58399(Mo4W)14". The printing on the label shows "6/11 X17-03404-02". So, the two numbers do not agree.

I proceeded with installing the software to a newly formatted disk to see what would happen. I got the error message, "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate and existing system partition. Set the setup log files for more information." So, the included disc was apparently an Upgrade Disc rather that an OEM or System Builder disk.

I then created a system partition with an XP disc and tried again. The install then proceeded to the point where it asked me to enter the Product Key.

So, it appears that someone gained access to a legitimate Windows 7 package, removed the disc and the Product Key and the COA and then inserted a copy of an upgrade disc. But, it is hard to know exactly what occurred. They pirates could have just replaced the original disc with a blank disc - or with nothing. But, I guess they wanted to try to confuse the user, and perhaps the supplier as well, by making the switch look like something other than a theft.

I build my own systems so I like the idea of being able to purchase a Systems Builder disk at a discount. I don't need any hand holding nor support unless a program has a bug. And, I would rather not pay for support that I don't need. So, I am hopping that Amazon gets the supply chain cleaned up and can continue to offer the System Builder discs with full confidence that the package is legitimate. In the meanwhile, I will have to look to a couple of other sources. Unfortunately at least one customer has reported a counterfeit disc at one of the alternate sources.

I could go on but it's past my bedtime. If this doesn't convince you, then nothing will.

I've bought a ton of software from Amazon including all my Adobe products and never had an issue. On the flipside I tend to stay away from the market place.

And for the record, all my software products from Amazon are registered, verified, and legit. Amazon is good

I've bought a ton of software from Amazon including all my Adobe products and never had an issue. On the flipside I tend to stay away from the market place.

Azon has no control over the product sold on the "market place" You are rolling the dice when buying from the market place, some win, some don't. Same thing with software off evilbay. Most is legit from honest sellers, some isn't.

I've had good luck with evilbay and software, I only buy from sellers with high feed back #'s and it has to be 99% positive or better.

I don't think Amazon censors anything either. I've left some nasty feedback before and it's published.

Just so you are aware, Amazon will lump Marketplace and Direct from Amazon reviews together for the same product/model. The reviews are for products, not sellers. For instance, the comments you linked to are the same for this Marketplace reseller, circuitcity, selling the "same" SP1 64 bit oem system builders edition as Amazon:

In fact I saw one comment on unusable key imply that it was a seller other than Amazon (that Amazon should kick them off).

So from looking at the comments, you can't tell if they are attributable to Amazon or a marketplace seller selling the same thing. There have probably been dozens of marketplace sellers selling this product. But it looks like a lot of these unusable copies were sold by amazon.

It is pretty ugly though, shameful that this has been a problem since 2012.

Yesterday I received a letter from the last Newegg rebate I mailed in. The letter denied my rebate because I did not include a sales receipt. I actually included two receipts. It goes on to say I can resubmit my rebate. This is the same reply I received from a Newegg rebate on a late November purchase. In that case I did the resubmit with all required paper work (AGAIN) and still I received a second letter saying I'm denied because I did not include a sales receipt.

Two different rebate companies, both replied with almost identical denial responses. It will be a cold day in Hades before I buy a paper clip from Newegg. I've written complaints to the BBB and my state AG consumer affairs department.

I call this a sham. To me, the vendor selling the item should be directly responsible for the rebate. Thus if say Amazon has a sale offering a $50 rebate, Amazon should be responsible for that rebate, and it should be instantaneous. Let them deal with the shell games rebate companies want to play.

The statistics say that more than 80% of the buyers never claim the mail in rebate. That's what they are counting on. And even when you turn it in, they may not process it for various reasons - although I never had a problem with MIRs.

Toshiba MQ01ABDH Hybrid Drive, 1TB with 8GB nand $90. Reviews are mixed. I have never owned a Toshiba but I do have 2 of the Seagate Hybrids, 500gb+8GB and they do offer better performance that a straight up spinner.
