Its saturating the Sata bus so hopefully there will be a M2 or SataExpress version out soon as some new motherboards have these new interfaces.

When it comes out, the 850 Pro will be a worthwhile buy for those getting a new SSD but will not really be worthwhile for replacing existing 840 Pros unless one needs (or wants) the added capacity now available.

I have mixed feelings about the ten year warranty. It looks fantastic on the surface but, how many people are likely to want to use the SSD for more than 3-5 years without upgrading to something newer and better. If one should fail, say, five years from now, Samsung would most likely replace it with a then current model with similar specs; in fact it, it may be a better model than the original but will most certainly not be the best one, which is what one had at the beginning. I would rather pay less for a shorter warranty that would be more practical. Even better would be to issue a prorated credit on a newer model. That way, both Samsung and the consumer come out ahead.

I suppose some people once they decide to get the latest might use the old SSD for games or storage. I could certainly see it being used for 10 years then.

Actually, I'm not going to buy anything; I'm happy with what I already have. I was just commenting on the impracticality of paying for an excessively long warranty. Your solution, however, would mean buying a SSD that isn't as good as the 850 Pro.

Very interesting article Steve. As Jeannie said I don't think replacing my 840 Pro or EVOs would bring much benefit, however it would be a great first SSD.

It always helps things move along if the SSD seller also makes its own NAND and controllers. What I may have missed is whether or not the 850 Pro can use Rapid Mode.
