at £90 from amazon is a great cpu, 6 cores, amd do make great cpu's and given budget restrictions you won't get better.
i use an intel myself but not because amd don't make comparable cpu's, my choice was because of i already had the motherboard.
pair it up with a decent graphics card and you'll be more than happy.
one option anyway but not much choice at the price range certainly nothing worth thinking about from intel.

in your honest opinion do u think that the fx will be able to play games like gta iv ate considerably high setting when hooked up to a GTX550ti and 8 gigs of RAM

the cpu will make a small difference but that graphics card should be more than adequate for the task.
