Best Way to Update a Backup Drive?

Drive 1 i have backed up all my content on it to drive 2. So I keep adding files to drive 1. Later on, when i want to update my backup drive with new content, what is the best way to do this without of course, duplicating the entire copy process?

Use SyncToy to copy only the newer files.

I like FreeFileSync. It's similar to SyncToy. One feature FreeFileSync has that I like is I can set it to send deleted files to a versioning folder instead of to Computer, Never, Never Land.

File syncing programs work by comparing paired folders on the source and destination drives. New files on the source drive get copied to the destination drive. Changed files on the source drive replace the originals on the destination drive. Files that get deleted on the source drive also get deleted on the destination drives.

Or do image backups using a program like Macrium Reflect Free or a paid program like Acronis True Image. First backup is a full backup, next are incremental backups, containing only changed or new files.

Created an Image, now what?

Computer has a going-bad hard drive and we got a new one for it, I created an image using Macrium and made a rescue CD. Now what do I do? Is it all backed up (photos, documents,programs)? that's really important.
Also i put the image on a external hard drive. So if the image backed up everything, what do i do now? I know how to take out the hard drive and install the new one, but what do I do after i uninstall the old and install the new? I can put an OS on it, but there comes the hassle of drivers and programs. What do I do? do I insert the disc and boot from it and then plug in the external hard drive and run the image to get all the documents, files, programs, pictures back on it?

If you made any image with macrium it should have all the OS and the drivers programs documents etc. on it, and you said you have it on an external hard drive which is perfect.

After you have installed the new hard drive plugged the external hard drive into a USB port, put in the rescue CD start to computer and if the CD/DVD drive is set to boot first after the computer starts you should get a screen asking to press any key to boot from the CD/DVD just go ahead and press any key and follow the instructions to navigate to your image and it should put you back into shape.

Macrium rescue cd, what to do?

Switched the drives in the computer and made a rescue CD and image before doing so. Now when the computer is started it goes to the Macrium page, what do i press?

You have to have the paid version of Macrium Reflect to do incremental images.
