I have the official Windows 7 Beta (Build 7000), and I installed BF 2142 yesterday.

Everything works great, no lag, no freezing.

But when I play online, after about 10 minutes, I get kicked off the server and the Punk Buster popup appears.

Has anyone else experienced this?

It happens to every server I join, different maps, different games.

Thanks in advance.

If you check this thread you'll discover you are far from being alone.

Punkbuster has stated they will not support a Beta OS....so until Windows 7 is officially released you can only hope someone outside of Evenbalance will come up with a solution (and some folks are working on it).

Set the compatibility to XP SP2 on BF2142 and punkbuster will think that you are running XP and you shouldn't get kicked. I did this about a week ago and haven't been kick at all (including BF2)

yeah sorry mine just stopped working today. I must have been lucky and join all the servers without punkbuster this last week.

FIX

Hey guys,

Ive recently installed Windows 7 Beta Build 7000. Ive noticed some problems with Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 after installing them onto WINDOWS 7 and did some research on the problems that were coming up here are the 2 problems I had:

Battlefield 2: Punkbuster Kick for Inadequate O/S Privileges (Which means administrative rights are not set, no admin rights?)

and

Battlefield 2142: Punkbuster Kick for Unknown Windows API funtion Error Code: 131131

So after doing a bunch of reading on the net, a lot of people were talking crap to the people with Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 and telling them oh what are you doing playing games on betas and basically complaining and not giving any help so I decided to figure it out and help those people that like WINDOWS 7 and just dont want to go back to crappy VISTA or the outdated XP so here is the fix step-by-step:

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Right click on the BF2 shortcut on desktop and click properties, (im sure your not a noob since you have windows 7 beta) so set your admin privileges to full control for bf2 and make sure you have "run as administrator" checked.

2. Right click on the shortcut on the desktop and click open file location and then do the same admin privileges on the actual BF2.exe

3. Last most important step, I think Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 somehow dont allow Punkbuster update under Windows 7 so you have to do it manually.

Go to this link and download PBSetup:

PunkBuster Online Countermeasures

Install it and select your game and update Punkbuster through that program.

Thats it!!! It works flawlessly for me! and i hope it works for you!

P.s.
Also I almost forgot make sure your firewall and antivirus software isnt blocking any of the games or programs. I have Kaspersky and i made sure BF2 and BF2142 were under the TRUSTED section....

Kai911 I and a lot of other people have followed this issue for months. We have all tried giving everything admin rights and opening firewalls. Elevating processes blah blah blah.

None of this works. I don't know how/if you have managed to play without getting kicked.

This does work for Me, i did everything He said to a T and I did all this before I even attempted to run the game for the first time(fresh install) PunkBuster never Kicked Me:cool:

EDIT: After exiting the game totally then logging back on and joining a different server i got the boot, tried going back into the server that didnt kick me and got the boot again, thats pretty darn weird if you ask me

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!!1

i have been struggling with this for close to two weeks.

pb booting me for api function 131131

resolution:

AMD Fusion beta.. this is a software that disables things running in the background of windows to free up system resources so games can run faster. one of these background items was related the API funciton that triggers the punkbuster boot..

i have just been able to successfully play for over 15 minutes with no boot.

i have not figured out exactly which background program was causing the erro but i did have to manually configure the fusion profile to stop select items to prevent it from stopping my wireless connection.

i will provide additional details when i have more time but this is a mjor break through....

From what I hear there are more hickups in 7048 than in 7000.

And no, me and Angeryman and I forget. Anyways we worked on this problem for over a week trying drivers, fixes, tweaks. Nothing works. Punkbuster refuses to make an update also.

Please refer to the "Punkbuster Thread" for all other ideas, thoughts and so on and so forth.

Im getting this same bunkbuster error for Battlefield 2142 but whats interesting is windows 7 is recording it, heres a example C:\Users\<username>\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\NonCritical_PnkBstrB.exe_65814d6d14cf2a5e97f3679ef32732b75acdf8a9_08a2d0ba
with a Report.wer file inside

ive gotten multiple of these, some with file PnkBstrB.exe and some with PnkBstrA.exe. now im going to try just setting these files to run as administer but if that doesent work ill attempt to replace them with a working copy of the files from XP, ill tell ya what happens

I was unable to play BF2 and BF2142 on beta build 7000 and 7100 started messing with it again a few days ago. I was unable to run my games until I did the following below. I hope this works for you guys. I tried everything I could think of to install and run my games. None of the web fixes or work arounds I found worked for me
  1. Place your game disk in your cd/dvd drive once it loads Don't choose the auto install instead open the folder to view the files using windows explorer.
  2. Once the folder opens look for the game's Setup application. Right click on it and choose properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and check Run this program in Compatibility for Windows XP SP3. Also check mark the box for run this program as an administrator. Click Apply then ok.
  3. Now double Click on Setup and install your game.
  4. Once the game installs Click on Compatibility and check Run this program in Compatibility for Windows XP SP3. Also check mark the box for run this program as an administrator Click Apply then ok.
  5. If your patching the game do the same thing again for the patch. Right click on the Setup for the patch and choose properties. Click on Compatibility and check Run this program in Compatibility for Windows XP SP3. Also check mark the box for run this program as an administrator Click Apply then ok. Then double click and install the patch.
  6. Go to Evenbalnce and downloaded the pbsetup. Create a folder on your desktop and name it whatever you want. Once it's extracted do # 2 & 3 again. Right click on pbsetup and choose properties. Click on Compatibility and check Run this program in Compatibility for Windows XP SP3. Also check mark the box for run this program as an administrator Click Apply then ok. Then install PB by double clicking and install the patch.
  7. Once PB loads add your games and upload any new updates for them. Don't do anything else for PB. I didnt !
  8. Try running your games and see what happens. Following these steps is the only way I got my games to work without getting kicked out of the servers with a API error(s) I've been playing for two days now without any problems.
I now will follow this procedure for every thing I will install on my PC while using Windows 7. I had probs installing my bluetooth dongle today until I did the above for the setup application it worked again :)

Win 7 RC x64 (7100) solution for BF2142 :

I followed Mdttb's steps, unfortunately, I was kicked after a few seconds/minutes.

I installed all the updates from Windows Update. Still no working.

So I uninstalled the game and reinstall it following again Mdttb's steps, but instead of Windows XP SP3, I checked all my *.exe files "Run this program in Compatibility for Windows Vista" (NO SP1/SP2).

I could play several hours since the last 3 days now, on differents servers, and I am not kicked anymore !!!

Still, I highly doubt doing EITHER of those "fixes" will actually work. It's all about luck how long you will be able to play in my experience. I also installed XP as a secondary OS for this game so I don't care anymore.

win 7 and punkbuster

i play bf2142 and bf2 with no problems on win7 rc. With the game running , alt tab out and start task manager, set processes priority for punkbuster b to high, and punkbuster a to above normal. Using this method I have not been kicked off any servers for punkbuster. hope it works for you. (I assume you have your punkbuster updated with pbsetup.exe.) :D
