bfbc2 update - vietnam

just started bad company 2, and a big update is downloading...

also notice on steam that they are pushing the vietnam expansion pack, for £9.99 - start playing 3 days early.

my bc2 was bought in a shop and was non-steam powered - reading the steam forums, it seems that the steam expansion will work on a non-steam base game install - all you get from steam is an unlock code that you've got to type into your EA account...all the data is in the update.

i'm going to wait for the update download to finish (it looks as if it's going to take some time ), then cross my fingers and bash the plastic on steam, and will report back.

Here is a complete list of all the fixes for PC in this update:


- Acog and Red dot scope now equippable on MK-14 and G3.

- Fixed an issue where the Bullet Tracers wouldn't display

- Fixed an issue where Play Now wouldn't work

- Added Ticket Count for Conquest end of round.

- Added the server info to the objectives screen.

don't know why the updater is completely maxing out one of my cores - i've only got two

it's been going for nearly an hour, and i'm still only a third of the way through...

I gave up using the updater after it crashed twice halfway through so I just downloaded from one the links and it is going much faster

Not touching Vietnam with a bargepole...its a port as far as I'm aware so miniscule maps with 32 players sucks..I barely play BC2 anymore because the maps are so small..
Waiting on BC3 which apparently is being developed with PC's in mind...that is much bigger maps so at least you wont get killed in spawn area by some sniper sitting half a map away..in theory lol

And btw we are getting 2 new maps for BC2 soonish so I read someplace..hope they are bigger lol

i bought vietnam on steam, but don't know if it will work yet.

according to this thread, both DICE and EA say it will...

Steam says it's 4 new maps, and they were in today's update.

it's MP only, and needs BC2 - it's an expansion,

And BTW, BFBC2 absolutely rocks, the new maps are insanely fun (Harvest Day is by far the biggest map on BFBC2 now).

Just pre-ordered Vietnam as well .

Some lag is always expected when a new patch is being deployed (servers need to update as well).

yup your right we did get new maps I never noticed...I just set for rush and join w/e server I can get into at the time.
MY BC2 is going thru EA tho not Steam..just tried to associate the game to steam account for zilch...do I have to reinstall this tho I just did and Steam didnt auto pick up on it when I did the install like it did with NV and Metro.
How do I get Steam to pick it up cos I dc mostly because I lose the link to EA?

i actually amicably left the clan several months ago, although i do still play there from time to time - that's why i don't wear tags any more. they only have a rush server now, whereas i generally prefer conquest - i don't like defending

i'm sure that the *Mine* guys will be running the new maps...it's always good to get something new for free.

looking forward to vietnam too...

well i'm really enjoying the new conquest maps - it's almost like a whole new game (or rather like an old game) with the wide open spaces and lots of vehicles.

can't wait to see what they've got in store for vietnam...

Yea I'm loving the new maps. It's loads better having so much space. Though crossing a huge field in an open area leaves you as easy pickings for snipers.

Just got through a few rounds of the new maps... and I'm loving it! So much so that I ordered Vietnam, which is cool since I'd pretty much stopped playing it had gotten so stale.

any noticing (very small) bugs though?

i keep seeing a 'reload' message on my screen, even when i've got a full clip. i think this is a new bug.

the ump-45 (and ump-sa) reloads instantly, without a reload animation. i think this is an old bug.

...or is it just me?
