Big Problem With Windows 7,please help!!!!!!

I am trying to understand what the problem is.
1 Is it hardware stays on after the operating system has shut down?
Or
2 Is it the operating system never turns off?

What brand and model of powersupply do you have?


I would completly reset the Bios either by using the jumper or unplugging it and remve the battery from it on the motherboard for a minute or two. Once you do that put the battery back in and plug the PC back into the wall then go into the bios and set the date and time and what drive to boot from. Do not make any more changes than that restart your PC get into windows again and see if the problem stopped.

As much as I hate to say it its some times faster to completly reinstall the OS than it is to try to track down a settings issue.

I've got the same problem with Windows 7 and I also have the same motherboard. I searched for ages and never found a fix. It just doesn't shutdown. I just restart and then turn off using the power button when it gets to the menu. I have a dual boot system. No problems shutting down with Windows XP, so the problem probably lies with Windows 7.

This problem usually lies with the motherboard, and probably because the power line sensor is either defective, wrongly connected, or not connected. In this case the signal which is sent to power down the machine never arrives.

An ATX power supply does not directly connect to the system power button, allowing the computer to be turned off via software.If it is connected directly the software power down will not work. As you can turn the machine off with the power button, then that might have been the case here.

However, if XP powers the machine down correctly, then you need to change your power settings in Windows 7 so that it does the same thing.
