My pc had suddenly decided to not recognising any of my Sata drives.

Win 7 32 bit, 4 gig ram, asus psn d motherboard, ati sapphire 1g pci card, 1 250g western digital Sata drive 1 x 1tb seagate hdd. Sata DVD drive

Yesterday my pc froze up while surfing the web, so reset it and that where the problems started

It only recognised one of the hdd then wouldn't boot got a bsod uncountable boot volume. So opened up the case to check if the cables where loose, nope, so decided to run a repair via the recovery console. Didnt detect my o/s at all:sarc: ask me to install the correct drivers grrrrr. So stripped the pc down swapped the Sata cables to see if that was the problem, no joy at all would only find one Sata drive and DVD drive. Then it wouldnt recognise any of them, so swapped out the Sata DVD drive for an IDE drive. The booted up nothing bar the DVD drive. Have now come to a cross roads don't know what else's to try. Managed to boot via a USB drive with Linux and everything system wise, pcu, gpu etc works, but still no Sata drives.

Done some digging online and some ideas are not a big enough psu, faulty Sata cables, but swapped in an IDE hdd and nothing again.

So any ideas or pointers would be great, missing my pc, skyrim needs my attention :p

Hi jayjay291077 and welcome to W7 Forums

Is the date/time showing correctly in the BIOS (you will need to press F2 or Delete on powering up - see the screen/manual for which key to press) ?

First thing that comes to mind is a failed hard drive.
Second would be a faulty motherboard or psu.

There is the possibility that the rail supplying the sata connectors is faulty on the psu.

If I was fixing it, I would boot up with just the hard drive that had the os installed and see if the bios sees it, and would go and test the other drive and DVD one at a time.

Try clearing the cmos by taking the battery out for a few minutes. Be aware though, you will end up with default bios settings so you will have to go through the bios settings and set them to what you need. Also listen to the hard drives see if they are getting power or making funny noises!!

Essenbe yes it still posts finds IDE DVD drive nothing else. Anthony will try to pop the CMOS battery see if that makes a different, and have listen to the different drives can't hear them spinning up or making any noise at all. Have reset bios to default still not detecting Sata drives

ok update, have taken out the cmos battery still nothing, changed sata cables nothing, new psu fitted nothing, so im guessing now it the motherboard thats toast well the sata controller is dead. my motherboard is an assus p5n-d thinking of replacing it with an ASRock P5B-DE - Motherboard - ATX - LGA775 Socket - P965 - FireWire - Gigabit Ethernet - HD Audio (8-channel) as it a resonable price and a direct replacement would be £120 +

or my other option is a pci sata controller card any advice would be great#

thanks
