Hello everyone,
I have a question I do not know if it has been answered anywhere so I will ask if it has to please redirect me to the correct link.
I am going to be doing an upgrade on my pc and during this upgrade I am changing out my CPU. Will this require a flash of the bios and if so could you link me to the correct tutorial for an XFX Nforce 680i Lt Sli mobo?:geek:

P.S. I don't know for sure if this is required but I am running Win7 X64 Ultimate on a core2duo.

What are you upgrading to?

If you have the latest BIOS then you should be okay, but if you're going to a quad core, then you might need to do a BIOS update as the 680i is quite a few years old now, so might not recognise newer quads.

If you go to www.xfxforce.com and register on there and register your motherboard, you should be able to look at the support files and download any of the latest BIOS updates.

I know its a little dated but working fine, I am going from my E4500 to an E8400 core2duo don't believe I can go to quad. Quad will come next year. I'm just doing some wanted upgrading like mem/vid/cpu/power...just to keep up with some of the newer software and games coming out and I'm on a budget. You know, the budget where everything in the world goes up but your wages.

LOL! can't keep the kids locked up in that little root cellar in the neighbors yard forever.

You might be okay just going from a dual core to a dual core then, but as the E8400 is a newer dual core, you might get some incorrect readings in things such as CPU-Z.

What type of incorrect readings do you mean? And do you know where to get the latest WinFlash download for my XFX Nforce 680i LT SLI? I looked all over the net and on XFX site and can't find it. I need it to flash my bios with. I have my XFX products registered on their site and they recommended they P08 version they have listed. And as for the E8400 I d/led a CPU compatibility guide from them and they E8400 is listed for my board.

Thanks for the link jfar...I'm a registered user on XFX the manufacturer of my mobo and my vid. card. I got the latest version which was on the link you provided as well and in the same format. I need WinFlash I am guessing for XFX mobo in order to install the .bin format in which it is in. I can't seem to find the WinFlash for my needs, I have seen ATI, and some others but not finding what I am looking for, not on the XFX site either. I posted a ticket with them but since it is Sunday, they probably wont get to me until Monday or Tuesday. I don't want to grab just any WinFlash if I am doing a bios update since I could mess up my system if done incorrectly.
I also read on the net that it is not recommended to use CMOS that is in Windows for the install.

I think they have an automatic updater for your motherboard, I am not sure, but they will tell you all
you need to know when they pull your ticket, it is safer to wait and discuss it with them in person, they are usually quite fast in answering, so I have heard.

I mean like CPU-Z might not be able to pick up the proper name of the CPU and you might not be able to get temperature readings, but that chart shows it's supported, so should be alright.

If the BIOS file is a .iso you can burn it to CD and boot from CD and it'll flash it as that's how I upgraded my current XFX motherboard with the latest BIOS. Otherwise is this what you need: techPowerUp! :: Download Winflash 2.0.1.2 ?
