Earlier this year I was having some BSOD issues but they were pretty much fixed after a lot of suggestions from forum members. Just recently I had boot up problems. It would get to the POST beeps (one beep only) and all the leds on the MB would flash once and then it would die and try to reboot. This would keep going until I cut the power. After a day or two of checking all connections and swapping memory back and forth it eventually settled down and worked perfectly. I can't say what was causing it but that's not the problem. Just yesterday I got a black screen and automatic reboot. Doing nothing particularly stressful at the time and it hasn't happened since. So here is my question. I notice there is a newer BIOS for my motherboard available. Can you recommend a safe way to do it. It sounds like it can go terribly wrong.
There is mechanism for updating from within bios itself. Normally copy the downloaded file to a fat32 format usb stick and the bios program will let you browse to it.
I did it on an asus a little while back, pretty simple. in the advanced screen > tools , it is called asus ez flash utility
Many thanks for your suggestions. I have decided to wait until I have a backup PC ready to use before I risk updating the BIOS. Several sources suggest it is best not to update unless it is for a specific problem because of the chance I might brick the machine.
