Hi Folks

I have a XP optiplex 745 converted from XP to Wins 7 Now. that needed a new hard drive, transferred image to new western 1 t thru a lap top, some how, (as a tech did it for me) installed new drive and bios will not recognize it, using Ubuto OS i can get it up, but want only to use the MS OS.

after 7 hours of the guy messing with it, we put old drive back in which is glitchy, sometimes forgetting my preference's Etc. I know life is short for old drive, --What to do?

On your other post at #38 I stated that I've had bad experiences with Western Digital Drives, HDD and SSD.

More than one, dead on arrival, more than one failed within a year, onboard electronics, irreparable and data was lost.

Thank you.
yes but others swore on their mothers grave it was a wonder work horse.
do you think it is a dead drive? cause I can call it up with Ubuto, and use, just not MS 7
as well do you work for another drive company, sorry had to ask.
the western hd in there now is 13 years old.

as well you say just installing a western can hurt your mother board Etc.

Samuria:

It's been several years since I owned a Dell OptiPlex 745 minitower, but I'm pretty sure it has a legacy BIOS and has SATA2 ports for storage drives and disc drives. I don't remember for sure if it also has IDE ports.

Posting again on this thread, it will tell you what you have and what RAM and SSDs are compatible with your system.
You don't necessarily have to purchase Crucial, I have 3 in my machine and one Samsung. Can't tell any difference in speed, and the Crucials are less expensive. I've run them for years no problem.

thank you snick, I am liking this above as a tool and liking the ideal of just making a spare 1 T hard drive copy to just drop in if my new one dies

hope that was a typo on the Hard Drive, you would want a 1tg SSD, as I was saying I have 3
Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5 inch 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal SSD

I just checked Amazon, Newegg, same price $114, they have a cheaper model for $99 never purchased on, can't say anything about them specs are slightly lower performance, doubt you would see any difference with our old machine. I don't notice any difference with my crucial mx and my Samsung 970 Evo Plus
My desktop pc is running a quad core amd chip hp pavilion p7-1234, came with Win764 Home Premium.

If you look at my specs, I dual boot several different setups. Black Arch and Kali Linux are penetration testing/hacking linux distros. White Hat Hacker, not Black Hat Hacker. LOL

I'm watching the 2TB MX500 model
