Trying to install Windows 7 on new hard drive, have set DVD drive to first boot drive in bios, but when I boot the PC I get the message "insert disk into DVD drive (d)" it does not see the disk, if I put back the old hard drive with Win XP installed and open the DVD drive it shows the dvd drive as empty but if I put any other disk (programs etc) in the drive it reads it ok and runs, it's only the installation disk it won't recognise, I tried another Win 7 installation disk and that's not recognised either (they are both genuine hologram Windows disks) any ideas ?

Does it read other DVD's or only CD's? Different lasers are used - could be a fault with one of them. If so, get a new dvddrive.
