Hi guys, so I've been trying to overclock my AMD Athlon II X3 455 that's being used with a Biostar A780L3L motherboard but am having no luck. I've been able to squeeze about 100MHz out of it by raising the CPU reference clock but I'm unable to raise it any higher than about 201 without Blue screening instantly. Under the custom P state options is a list of multipliers for core FID which shows the max clock speed at 3300MHz but this doesn't allow me to go any higher than stock 3.3GHz. Although I'm using a stock AMD heatsink, I'd still like to know why I can't go any higher than this.

Edit: I should also mention that other options such as voltages are also at max and won't go any higher

Are you raising the FSB ?

Have you raised the cpu core voltage ?

Overclocking is a trial and error process.

Are these options under Custom P-States? In my BIOS, the options don't allow me to go any higher on anything but the CPU reference clock. It's not the fact that I bluescreen or encounter errors when I change them, there just physically isn't an option to go any higher than what's already there.

Then you can't. Not surprising, Biostar motherboards are not exactly solid. I can only imagine the disaster overclocking would cause on a motherboard like this. But then again, it's not possible if there is no option to peruse the CPU frequency.

Ah, okay, thanks for clearing that up then. Guess that's the last time I'll be buying a budget motherboard.

Good idea. Motherboards hold the entire system together, not a good idea to go cheap on something like that
