Black border's around screen when in bios or safe mode

gary, mine goes to 1920X1080, I don't know why, I'm just happy it does. But with the screen's black background it's really hard to tell if I have a black border in safe mode, but increasing the resolution to the monitor's native resolution, I'm pretty certain I don't have one. There's not a real noticable one in bios.

I can change to 1920x1080 in safemode. But it is still not fullscreen.

Perhaps it has something to do with the cable used with Nvidia cards. My monitors are 23" 1920x1080 and i use Dual link Dvi cable's. This setup is exsactly the same as it was with my ATI card which displayed the bios in full screen aswell as in safe mode, No black bars.. No option's /setting's needed changing for this.

Does this happen for those of you using Hdmi cables to connect?
I've not actually tried changing the res in safe mode but will do. Changing the scaling setting's of my monitor's OSD from full to fit changes nothing while in windows or the bios.

With DVI or HDMI many monitor adjustments are done by the GPU and not available on the monitor's settings, as least that's how mine works. I have DVI, no HDMI cables. If you'd use VGA you should have all adjustments to use. Of course there's the chance I'm full of crap too.

yup same ere mate i've only ever used Dvi to connect so i wouldn't know about the others. From what i've read in the last couple of days it seems that its just an issue that Nvidia have had for a good while but still won't admit and pass it off as your monitors scaling. I do have a little old ell monitor under the stairs but no adapters to connect it to test it.
I just went n checked my daughters rig as i couldn't remember if it was the same. GTX 460 connected via a dual link Dvi cable to a 23" 1920x1080 LG Flatron. Same issue...

Gary is right. My video card does not have a vga connection. I use a vga on the monitor, connect to the video card with vga to dvi adapter and low and behold, full screen bios. I think HDMI will do the same, I will pull out a cable and try in a few.. My monitor doesnt have a hdmi input so I can't test that.

I've always read that the bios has a hard coded resolution by the MB manufacture and never has been dependent on the GPU being used. Highly doubt this has anything to do with Nvidia. If it displayed differently with ATi then I'd say good, but it's not the GPU manufactures job to make the bios or safe mode look pretty.

It has nothing to do with Nvidia but its only Nvidia gpu's that do it. Hmmm :sarc: None of my previous AMD gpu's did it.

Does the NVidia software run in Safe Mode? I'm wondering if it's anything to do with the overscan feature not being loaded. My Windows screen looked like that when I first installed my HD7850 and I had to use overscan to fill the screen (1920 x 1080). Maybe if the feature isn't loaded (in BIOS or in Safe Mode) the output defaults to a smaller resolution?

Safe mode only runs drivers need to show a disply, no nVIDIA or AMD.

The issues is properly a lot more simpler then you guys realize. Default Settings. With out a driver the GPU uses its default settings and in those settings the scaling factor is likely either set to Preserve Aspect Ratios or Centers (Preserving Aspect and Resolution) on large format monitors using a digital connection. Of course it could also be a setting in the BIOS. On my older laptop (Inspiron E1705) it had the option to either expanding the BIOS and pre-windows enviroment to full screen (1920x1200) or have it displayed center (Black bars all around).

My current setup, uses an UEFI board expands to fill the whole screen with a GTX 690 (DVI). I wish it would have the option to turn off fullscreen. Its not the best features on a 30" monitor.
