first, just to say "Thank You" for those who contributed excellent solutions to this issue I just encountered - not on my system but one I put in for someone else. But have a question and want to compare notes please.
Did any of you who had this "black background" desktop check the Windows Error Logs for a related error?
The system I worked on today is windows 7 professional, activated, etc but it had a few common malwares. After cleaning it up the Desktop was black though the Themes were still invoked. I tried messing with Personalization settings and best I could tell, no AERO scheme will work. Basic [Like Windows 7 Classic] do work. When I checked Error logs [system] there was a related message basically saying that Themes is dependent on a service that was not marked correctly. I could not find/understand what it was telling me and failed to get it going.
Any of you seen the same thing? Everything else on the system looks ok.
