Black desktop icons

Problem black icons (not all) after restart
When you restart per 2 below its fine but when you restart again they’r black again.

Done already: Saw somewhere instructions boiling down to this:
1. Disk cleanup of Thumbnails - delete
2. In the command prompt, Copy and paste each command line below exactly as is one at a time and press enter after each command.
ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache
taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F
DEL "%localappdata%\IconCache.db" /A
DEL "%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\iconcache*" /A
shutdown /r /f /t 00
The IconCache.db file has now been rebuilt.

Previously also did this:
3. Task manager - End Explorer.exe .
4. Task manager ‘File menu’ - select New Task (Run…)
6. Type CMD.EXE, and click OK
7. In the Command Prompt window, type the commands one by one and press ENTER after each command:
CD /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local
DEL IconCache.db /a
EXIT
8. Task Manager, click File, select New Task (Run…)
9. Type EXPLORER.EXE, and click OK.

Hi, Welcome to SF.

The above mentioned steps can also be found in this tutorial.
In the above, you will get a .bat file, that you can use to rebuild the cache for the icons. Try that and keep us posted.

Thanks for that. I previously used the mentioned bat file and it works for once but when I shut down tonight I have black ones again . At this stage I rather hybernate at night.

I am unsure about this one and will not use it just now ..........

6. If the icons are still not displaying properly, then download and merge the ICO option in this tutorial for Windows 7 or Windows 8 to restore the default associations of .ico (icon) files.

Hi Peter, you can follow the tutorial for your OS. Just follow the steps carefully and you will be able to solve this.
