Hello,
I am desperately need help
I would like to upgrade my windows xp x32 to windows 7x64 but unsuccessfull
My computer spec:
DFI LAN PARTY DK X48 T2RS
Intel quad core 2.44GHZ
VGA: gigabyte 9800 GTX+ 1GB DDR3
memory: Kingston DDR2 800 2GB -total 8Gb
Hardisk: seagate SATA 200GB 7200 rpm partitioned into 2 (150 & 50GB)
Soundcard: realtek ALC885 -onboard

According to windows7 upgrade advisor, my spec are compatible with win7 x64.
I uninstalled my antivirus and others programs that are not compatible with win7
I followed installation procedure - using custom installation
Installation went smooth until 1st restart, and then returns to installation . I mean the Completing installation progress. After being there for some time, a black screen occurs.
My hardisk was freezed and installation could not be continued
I changed my hardisk controller from IDE to AHCI, and using only 1 slot of memory based on some threads on the forum, but still I get black screen.

I don't know what to do now
Please help
Thanks and cheers
Julian

You can't upgrade from a 32-bit to a 64-bit operating system.

Where did you get Win7? If you burned the DVD yourself, try burning another using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

WHile you still have XP, make sure you have latest BIOS version update. If so, reset your CMOS: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/tp/clearcmos.htm

Try wiping the HD before install: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91339-ssd-hdd-optimize-windows-reinstallation.html

Boot the Win7 DVD to Custom install, use Drive Options to partition and format before install. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/31402-clean-install-upgrade-windows-7-version.html

If problems persist, test your HD using maker's diag/repair full CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Then boot the DVD, press Shift + F10 to open a Command Line and run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html

Test your RAM using memtest86 for 5-6 passes. Swap RAM sticks, remove all but 2gb to try install.

Here are also some tips on getting a perfect install, based on hundreds done here: http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/125874-re-install-windows-7-a.html#post1086729

Thanks for the info.
I solved the problem. It's nothing wrong with my hardisk. Wn7 could not somehow detect or trying to install the driver automatically causing black screen.I used old 256mb VGA card to install and change to current one later.
Hope this could be a help for others
Cheers
