This error has been occurring now and again over the last few months, but was always fixed with a restart and log in attempt being successful. Although, it became such a prevalent issue I made a habit of simply hibernating when I needed to 'shut down' my laptop, which would without fail log me in to the desktop, just like it would after a lock of the computer user.
Unfortunately my computer is now discontinued (Alienware stopped making this model a year or so ago), and since I cannot access anything, I'm not entire sure of the specs of the computer. It is however - standard built with no upgrades so I'm sure someone knows the specs of this machine. Here are the details I have of the machine and the error occurring:

Alienware M11x
Service tag: 66DLXN1
BIOS version: A05
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Alienware edition

On Normal boot:
Reaches login no problem
After log in, "welcome" appears
After about 15-20 seconds the screen goes black
Mouse is visible and moveable
Cntrl alt delete yields no results
Only action that does anything is to hard-shutdown the computer using the power button.

On safe mode boot of any kind:
The load freezes at "\windows\system32\Drivers\aswRvrt.sys"

The BIOS menu is still able to be accessed but nothing comes from those options being changed.

At this present time I don't have access to another computer (posting this on my iPhone), however later today I will have access so any suggestions at all would be appreciated. Currently at work and have been trying to fix this issue for the last 2.5 hours to no avail. A complete reload of windows in the last thing I would consider, due to my hard drive being full to the brim. I do have quite a bit backed up but there is much on there I don't want to lose.

Thanks in advance.

I don't recall this problem starting after the installation of Windows Service Pack 1, although it still may be the cause as suggested in similar posts on the net.

Hi XstiX, and "Welcome to the Seven Forums.". . .

Have you attempted to do a "Recovery?"

As to your specs you can download several apps that will give you that info (speccy is one that comes to mind).

it seems an infection. Download an antivirus rescue disk and burn it to a disk (or put it on a USB drive as instructed), then boot from it and scan the Alienware. If you can still reach the desktop, run a malwarebytes scan. If not, you can always take out the drive and attach it to another PC to scan it, but it's risky as the infection could spread this way.
