Hello all, this is my first time posting here so I hope I am doing everything correct.
I think you can see my system specs on my profile, but just in case I have a:
stock Gateway FX 6840-03e
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024mb
Intel i7 core processor
8gb ddr3
I usually have a wireless connection but I'm using a USB wireless adapter so I need the OS to install so I can down load the software for it and the drivers.

I'm attempting to do a clean install of Windows 7 home premium 64bit, the same OS I had on the computer since I bought it in 2010. Idk what happened but something got corrupted somewhere since it would not boot properly and a repair disc did not help at all. I took it upon myself to do a fresh clean reinstall. I deleted all partitions since I got an error telling my the system reserve was also corrupted. I made a new parition which automatically made the system reserve as well, formatted the new partition, then clicked next to install. First attempt, it went all night and I woke up with it frozen right before the "installing updates" stage. Tried it again today and it completed successfully and restarted on its own at the end. Since then, all it has given me after it boots up and goes past the bios screen is just a blank black screen. Not sure where I went wrong.

Any tips or troubleshooting or anything at all I can try? Any help would greatly be appreciated! I know this pc is 4 years old but I don't have the money to replace it right now, it was about $1k for it when it came out so I would really like to salvage it if I can!!!

Work through the steps below for overcoming installation failures. Report back results.

Be sure to also follow the steps for reinstall in that link below as it will assure you get and keep a perfect install. Win7 is a driver complete OS in the installer and via Windows Updates so you can get in trouble if you try forcing a bunch of drivers on it like it's XP.

Turned out to be the hard drive, I swapped it with an older one I had and it all went perfectly. Gonna scan the bad one later to see if I can salvage it. Thank you!!
