Your hardware is enough - what errors do you get?

Dear Frostmourne, Thank you for help. I have a XP pro (32 bit), Win7 pro (64 bit) and Win7 ultima evaluation copy (64 bit) on separate disks. While ripped blu-ray movie plays smoothly on XP using VCL media player, neither ripped file or disc are played smoothly, only in stop and go fashion. On Win 7 pro, 64bit, Pinnacle Studio 14 play the ripped movie smoothly. Win 7 home premium, 32 bit plays the movie file smoothly. So, what do you think why I can not get smooth playing on 64 bit OSes? I will change 64 bit Win 7 pro to 32 bit for testing.

Hi. I found the cause. Believe or not, after changing graphic card (eVGA gForce 9800 GT sli) to gF 9400 GS, every thing has become normal. Although I did not notice anything wrong with 9800 card for routine uses, since it caused Studio 14 installation problem before, I decided to test. Now I wonder whether or not that card is defective. Anyway, thank you your input.

its amazing how this FREE player can beat PowerDVD and ALL the others including VLC and GOMplayer...i actually never used it because it is ugly, but hey..it can play blu-ray files, MKV and all the other formats.

i downloaded a 23 GB blu-ray ISO that NO player could play decently, with this monster i could select Audio tracks, chapters and play it with 5.1 audio...this is really a great player, am switching as from right now.

EDIT: its MPC-HomeCinema.1.3.1249.0.(x64) am taking about, after 10 hours of testing, it seems like its got a lots of bugs as well.

This player is still in the early stages of development, but the free Lite version is the only one I've tried so far where I can advance the slider into an .mkv file anywhere I want and it doesn't hang or crash:

Splash - Next Generation Player

It does still have some quirks. Like clicking on your TV settings might cause it to crash. But the .mkv and .m2ts playback is hardware accelerated if your card is supported. At present it's also very limited afa subtitle support. afaik only .srt is supported at this point.

edit: btw I have it on Vista64 and W7 32 bit. I have Shark's Codec installed on both.

I just downloaded Media Player Classic HC to my brand new packard bell easynote tk85, win 7 x64, i5-480M, GEFORCE GT 540M 1GB VRAM, 4GB DDR3, BLU-RAY drive, and can not play the demo blu-ray disc. I've unchecked the H264/AVC (FFmpeg) and VC1(FFmpeg).
Any ideas?

To play Bluray disc you need 2 things.

1. A Bluray/DVD drive.
2. Playback Software.

If I recall correctly, WMP Classic does not playback Bluray discs. Nor do many other 3rd players.

You need something like Power DVD 11, Total Media Theatre 3 etc.


If your PC came with, or you purchased a BluDrive, it should have came with some form of playback software.
Most often its limited version of PowerDVD

Find Shark007's post here on how to play bluray discs with MPC-HomeCinema (32bit ) and Shark007 codecs in conjunction with AnyDVDHD or DVDFab Passkey-lite. That is an interesting solution. ( haven't tried it though since I am away from home.)

Stay away from power dvd I have had 8,9,10,11 and every time I buy a new dvd it fails to load, I am told I need the latest patch. I download it and when I try to install I am told I must purchase the xx power dvd which of course I already have. I have to wait for the next version to come out and buy that. I usually get to buy another 3 blue ray discs before the whole process repeats. That is how I have ended up with so many versions. Bought starwars the complete saga when it came out and same story. Now 12 has come out no doubt that will work but for the money I have paid for each version I could have spent half as much and bought a stand alone sony bluray player. Enough is enough don't end up on cyberlinks cash treadmill! There idea of technical support is to run a forum where all the like minded cash cows can moo together while they count your cash.
