Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox 360? Nope.

This week, rumors popped up again that Microsoft was working on a $100-$150 Blu-Ray add-on drive for the Xbox 360. And once again, the rumors are untrue.

Here's the official statement.

"As we've said before, Microsoft has no plans to introduce an Xbox 360 Blu-ray add-on. Games are what drive consumers to purchase game consoles, and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available."

Blu Ray for 360 doesnt make sense

MS believes in downloadable content for media and Live reflects their position to get that media into your living room. Having all 3 consoles, Blu-Ray, even as an add-on for X360 doesn't make sense. There would be no gaming advantage and Blu-ray has yet to prove itself as a the next gen. format. HD DVD would have had the same problem if it won.

I personally love HD DVD but have gradually built my Blu library. But I would prefer to have all my media on Hard drive. All of my other Dvd's and media are archived on my pc to be streamed to my Apple TV, 360 or PS3. If HD content becomes available to purchase via download, then I would never use an HD disc format.

That is where I believe media distribution is headed. Blu-ray may have won but it is already a dying format imo.

Blue-Ray for Xbox

:DI agree Blue-ray for x box would be a waste. Games aren't big enough to need it. Not allot of people use there Xbox to watch movies it gaming and on-line driven content. Soon all large format DVDs will go by the waste-side. As broadband content gets larger and faster. HDTV will be delivered over the net or Cable.

They should focus on making a huge hard drive for addon, lets say 1 TB for like 100- 150 bucks?
