I downloaded Norton System works and ran the registry cleaner. It re-booted and now I only get blue screen. I cannot get to the desktop. I ran the Startup Repair and cannot fix the problem. Problem signature: Problem Event Name: StarupRepairOffline, etc.

I then tried the system restore and it said I could restore to a earlier restore point. !You must always restore the drive that contains Windows. I was trying to restore windows drive C:. It will not let me select c: drive to restore. Status says you must enable System Protection on this drive. I tried everything on the System Recovery options. I even tried safe mode and still get the blue screen.

I currently not at home and don't have my windows 7 disk with me. Can anyone have a suggestion, other than re-installing windows 7.

Hi bhigdon
Maybe Norton messed up your registry and then the attempts to fix ended up messing up the installation completely.

First thing you should do is to try to get this HDD to another machine and back up any personal files you have. I beleive that further attempts to fix it might ionclude wiping it clean.

I would suggest you run a SFC /SCANNOW command, which is meant to analyze and fix the system files. But you need to run it from a command prompt, unfortunately you don't have it even in safe mode.

What you can try is to run Windows PE (which is what the installation program runs under) and then run the command from there. Please be aware I have not done it myself, so no guarantees it will work or will work right

For WinPE you need to download Windows AIK and burn a DVD with the WinPE boot

Let me know if you make progress.
