Toshiba laptop

Installed Windows home premium - installs fine but upon restart goes into startup repair and never goes further
Installed 7 professional - same error

Tried the bcdedit bootrec and the other one but it gives only a temporary access to windows and I can't do anything inside.

Got a new hard disk. Installed 7 and same problem

Pragnesh what media are you using? I am assuming it is an OEM disk. But you could try this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 if you want to use the original version you had installed on the machine which by the way is what is the model because your specs show us you have Dell??

You will find he original version on the sticker on the bottom of the machine. Also it would be good to know what PART No it is also on a sticker on the bottom of the machine.

Just make sure if you use this tutorial that you pick only the version it came with or the activation code will cause a lot of grief if not the same see pic.

Oh This is for a friend of mine. My PC is perfectly fine. I think it has something to do with a toshiba software. Toshiba Value Added Package - TOSHIBA FORUMS

As I understand it, the TVAP is the software that provides the functionality for the unique hardware in a Toshiba laptop. The function keys, the flashcards, the display switching from LCD to external monitor are all examples of this.

I think this is the problem. I will reinstall again and make sure that this program is running fine before restarting. The media disk I am using is perfectly fine.

Hmm hate to disappoint you my friend but I have had two Toshibas myself and fixed a few others and that bloatware is a crock of crap to be honest. I stuck SSD's in both mine and others when folks could afford it and installed an OEM ( I could have done an install using that tutorial but chose to buy an OEM disk) .
Unless there has been some massive change to any of the firmware that might be in the Toshiba's I can honestly say you are far better off without it.

But it is your choice if you could let me know what model it is I could tell you probably just what crapware that the machine comes with.
Again you can use that tutorial to install an ISO of the original version of Windows.

Follow the tutorial to not reinstall any of the Toshiba bloatware or drivers unless there are drivers still missing in Device Manager after installing all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates, with reboots, until no more are offered. You can then import any missing drivers from the Toshiba Support Downloads webpage for your model.

If you notice any functions missing after reinstall then ask back and we will help you recover those with only the barest minimum of the corruption Toshiba crapware reinstalled.

Yep Greg that is just what I was saying because of my experience with Toshibas though it can be said of any brand eh? Any data that is backed up can be added piecemeal if need be.:)

So I told my friend to install the Toshiba VAP this time before rebooting. It worked. It actually rebooted without the startup repair error. But when it got to logon screen, it hanged. It froze. Same happened in safe mode at logon screen. This time he did not install all of the updates before rebooting.

The problem is, if he doesnt install the toshiba crap, then he gets a startup repair error. If he does install it, then it hangs. This is really frustrating. I live so far away from him that I cant even do anything other than giving him some links to online forums.

I've never heard any complaints from Toshiba owners following Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Ask your friend to follow the steps exactly, particularly as it pertains to drivers and deleting all partitions during the booted install. Then if there are problems have him post here directly at which step these occur and exactly how.

Yes Greg something is being missed as I have used it on several occasions on Toshibas especially - there is some stuff that does download with the drivers I found but it is usually just minor crap stuff.

Personally I would diskpart / clean all from that drive - I know it is probably not necessary but knowing Toshibas from old I also often wonder if the BIOS has something embedded in it for that rubbish bloat.
