Boot Error :(

Windows 7 has been working great for me for the past couple of weeks.

This morning however, something tragic has happened.

Last Night I shut down my computer like I always do, nothing seemed to be wrong. But when I started it up this morning I got a very pecuiliar error.

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER - or something to that effect.

I found my Windows 7 disk, inserted it, and began the repair process. However, there was still something wrong. Windows 7 could not find my main Drive at all. The drive where I installed Windows 7 where all my data is and where I stupidly did not make a backup.

I tried doing a system restore, but it could not find my hard drive.

I tried doing a system repair with the installation disk, but it could not find my hard drive.

I tried to do a complete reinstallation, hoping it would find the disk formattable, but it wasn't even listed...

I've opened up my computer to make sure everything is still connected (though I don't see what could have posisbly knocked out a wire, I mean - I don't live in an earthquake zone and I'm pretty sure I killed all those trolls in my basement...) and I'm about to try booting it again.

As odd as this is, I'm making this post from my ps3 so I'll be keeping this open as I attempt to solve this problem.

If anyone has had a similar problem or just would like to leave me some advice, since obviously I'm not as computer savvy as I would like to think I am, please do :3

Hi roboSTERNE and welcome to Se7en Forums

This could be because your BIOS has lost the disk. To correct this, enter the BIOS when you restart your computer and check to see if the HDD is recognised. It could also be that the HDD has got removed somehow from the boot options in the BIOS - check this as well. See your motherboard manual for full details on how to enter the BIOS and the relevant options available pertinent to this problem.

This happens to me all the time!

The problem, in my case, is my power connectors being loose. Try to remove and reattach and/ore use another free power connector.

Damn power supply connectors! I really am gonna bash up my power supply so that i will be forced to buy a new one!

Am sick of loosing entire disk and even my DVD writer sometimes!

I'm guessing that since I can't even locate the proper hard drive from the BIOS menu, then it must be a hardware problem.

I'm not 100% sure this is the problem, there's really no reason for the power to supply connectors to suddenly stop functioning. I have my two SATA hard drives linked on the same power cord (two connectors merging and going back to the power supply). Windows and Bios can easily recognize the second signifcantly smaller and slower Hard Drive, but still won't recognize the main one.

So i've stolen my dads laptop and did some research since the PS3's browser sucks.

turns out my hard drive, a seagate 500gb blah-de-blah.... SUFFERS FROM RANDOM FAILURE!

Of course seagate denies and crapo, which is awesome.

So I think its safe to say my hard drive just randomly failed. Fun Fun.

Thanks for your help everyone, i'm gonna go burn my computer in a ceremonial torrent of anger and devestation.

BTW, I recommend shoving the drive down Seagate service centre personnel's throat and go all Jet Lee on their asses [with words, of course] and at least try to get a replacement!

Who knows! If you push hard enough, you might even break through!

That said, just be sure to check how old your drive is and whether or not it is still in warranty. If it is in warranty period [usually 5 years from the date written on your drive] then you have every right to flame them [service centre guys]. If not, its a 50-50 situation. They may listen to you, or they wont!

lmao, Thank you very much - I probably will go to seagate eventually. But right now my main priority is getting another hard drive and hoping this never happens again.

Btw, I know it was a joke - ahaha. You can rest assured my humor is very sarcastic to begin with so I rarely take anything so drastic seriously. Thanks just the same though!

I would also suggest you search for reviews for your new HDD to see whether or not it has any issues so that this does not happen again.

I think I missed it somewhere but did you hook up the HD to another computer to see if it still works?

Worth a shot.

PSU might not be giving enough juice for some reason.
