boot keypress laptop freezes

Hi all,

I have a compaq presario laptop ,

When I press any key at windows boot manager it freezes to the same screen
and I am not able to select windows of my choice...it works fine when window stars
and even when I enter the bios.
I also observed when I boot my laptop from bootable window
there also the same thing it freezes on any key press.

Guys please help me

Work through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

Is this the original Compaq preinstalled Win7 with all of the bloatware and duplicate utilities that interfere with better versions built into Win7? If so most tech enthusiasts won't run that but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

When I purchased it...it comes with Windows Vista Home Basic OEM preinstalled...I erased it completely and installed XP and win 7 in dual boot mode..it worked fine without any issue and all of a sudden this problem started. I dont think any issue with keyboard as it is working fine when window starts and even when I enter in BIOS..

Now I am only able to use Windows 7 as it is the default OS in menu and whenever I press any key to change the OS my system freezes and I have to reboot the system by pressing the laptop power button.

Is XP still on the hard drive? If so do you want to repair or remove it? This needs to be resolved to see if it is causing the problem, before proceeding to try other things.
