Hi,
I have gateway NV53 and has windows 7 x64 home premium 64 bit os installed in it. Last week I installed lenux ubuntu on the same machine with assigned 100 gb partition. After installing ubuntu I restarted my machine and message popped up saying bootmgr is missing. Tried few ways to get rid of this problem but didn't work out at all. Can't get into any of these os's. Don't have Windows recovery DVD. Tried to run windows 7 installation disk but during the set up it doesn't detect the Windows 7 from the dvd disk. Checked all the disk volume and partition via dos prompt it says data is healthy and safe. So, please suggest me what should I really do to solve this ..help will be appreciated

Since you can't boot into Windows, then do the following:
1) Boot into the Ubuntu install media
2) Choose the option to Try Ubuntu
3) When a desktop finally opens, open the terminal and enter "sudo fdisk -lu" (lowercase L, not a one).

This will list out the partitions and filesystems on the drive so we can see what is still there.

You said you installed Ubuntu, so I presumed you had install media -- DVD or USB stick, and yes, you have to boot using that.

According to the fdisk results, the Windows partitions are still there (good news) and, if sda2 is where your boot loader files are located, the boot flag is pointing to the right partition -- so win7 should boot.

As a further check, once booted into Ubuntu, look at sda2 (using Nautilus) to see if the following are there:
1) a bootmgr file (about 400K)
2) a "boot" folder, and inside that, a file named "BCD" (about 32K)

When you booted from the Win7 install media, did you try to do a reinstall, or did you try "Repair"?
