Boot Up Issue after upgrade from Vista

I recently repaired my Acer Aspire 4520 Laptop and decided to upgrade it from Vista SP1 to Windows 7 Ultimate (this is a 32 bit system btw). Everything went really smoothly until the last restart, after restarting it won't boot at all, the motherboard screen is displayed and then nothing but a blank screen with a blinking cursor. I do have the installation disk however I've tried to use the memory diagnostics and system repair features but they require a restart and everytime I do the it boots into the blank screen again.

Any help is appreciated, I'm a student and finals are coming soon, I really need this laptop.

Was this an in-place Upgrade? How do you know it was finished? These sometimes fail toward the end choking on some of the factory bloatware or hardware. Sorting that out is a real PITA although we can do it.

Have you booted into Win7 disk System Recovery Options to run Startup Repair to see what it reports? I'd first confirm the Partition Marked Active is the 100mb System Reserved (if you have it) or the Win7 partition (if you don't). If you do this using free Partition Wizard boot disk you'll get a picture of the Drive Map like Disk Mgmt you can take a camera snap of to post back using paper clip in reply box.

You might save time by moving directly to do the superior Clean Reinstall Windows 7, deleting all partitions during the booted install to create and Format New as you wish, or just click Next after deleting all to have the installer do it for you.

If problems arise during the reinstall then these steps will Troubleshoot Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums

Hopefully you backed your files up but if not you can try browsing into the failed Upgrade to rescue them to stick or external now using Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console , including the important things to back up which are in the beginning steps of the reinstall tutorial.

There is also a panther file you can look at whose last listing sometimes reveals what is causing the Upgrade to fail. If you want more information on that we can provide it.

Hey thanks for your reply, I tried startup repair but it keeps saying I have an external device attached even though I don't (excluding the disk installation disk I'm booting from). By the way, could you please explain how to find the panther file you were talking about?
