Boot up timing slow?

hello guys i am new to this forums and i am sure this windows 7 forums can help my problem.
anyways my reboot timing is 147 seconds.
so the problem i have is why does it take so long to boot up my pc?
from the moment i press the ON button button to the time it completes loading my desktop. and the thing that takes soooo long is the Welcome screen. after i log in it, says "Welcome..." then the mouse point turns into this circle thing from vista (not the problem of the icon but how long it takes to boot) and it takes like 40 seconds from the welcome screen to the desktop and desktop takes like 20-30 seconds to load everything.
i just upgraded from vista to 7 yesterday and my vista boot time (from power on to desktop) took me 75 seconds...thats half of the time it takes me to boot my desktop.
any suggestions on how i can speed my laptop booting time??

thanks. i will look into that. right now i am running disk defragmenter. i heard this helps alot.
right now i have 2GB ram/250 GB hard drive

so anyways i have another question...how long does it take for your pc to boot?
from the moment you press the power button to the time your desktop is fully loaded?

The last time I timed it, it was around 83 seconds since I have a non-RAID boot drive and RAID data drive, two southbridge chips, and a lot of startup programs.

i have disk clean up utility up and i was asking you since you seem to be a professional at this stuff, what should i check for the disk to clean up
here is what it says:

You can check them all if you like to clear their caches and temp files. It will not hurt anything.

to be extra cautious can i set a restore point before i do the disk clean up (all boxes checked) just in case something happens after?

Sure, you can create a restore point before doing it if you would like to. It's always best to lean to the side of being cautious.

now all i gotta do is wait for my disk defragment to hurry up with the consolidation...its been stuck at 0% for a while and now at 1% LOL

oh hey i almost forgot....idk if this can help but i almost forgot.
since i upgraded to windows 7, what about my drivers? how would i know if they are windows vista drivers or windows 7 drivers? or did the upgrade automatically updated my drivers during the installation of windows 7?
i just noticed that the BIOS being fully updated can help performance too as well

yeah that is what i noticed....so basically i dont have the windows 7 drivers atm but in order to get them is from the website if i am correct?
i thought i already got the windows 7 drivers but i guess in order to get them is by manually downloading them from website

Correct. You would just download and install them.

Afterwards, you would just either let Windows Updates install new versions for you if available, or check the website for new versions and manually install them again when available.

ok thanks. i guess i know why it takes soo long to boot up. i guess new drivers are needed for vista. it makes sense now.
