bootmgr is missing..........

I have an asus N81 laptop and recently changed over to windows 7 with the upgrade disc. It all went fine and the computer worked fine for about a week and then the other day I start the computer and it shows this message. I've checked online everywhere for solutions but I can't get past the screen when it tells me that the bootmgr is missing. What should i try to get past this?

Usually means the wrong partition is set as active.

Run startup repair from the installation dvd - see what it says.

Or boot up a free bootable partition manager such as this - see what it say s( you must make sure NUM LOCK is on after booting the cd )

I put the installation dvd in and it still prompts me with the bootmgr

You have to BOOT from the dvd.

To "Boot" a cd /dvd :

Start the pc.

Watch the white writing on the black screen. It will say something like:

F2 for setup
F11 for boot menu

(Your F numbers may be different) Press whatever key it tells you for boot menu.

A menu will pop up.

Arrow down to cdrom drive. Put the cd/dvd in the drive and close the tray.

Press Enter. A few secs later it will ask "press any key to boot from cdrom drive". Press Enter again.

The contents of the cd/dvd will start loading into memory (ram).

Windows does not start - you are starting the program on the cd/dvd instead.

It says nothing just a flashing underscore then has the asus screen then the bootmgr.

You have no options at all on the POST screen - not even press Del or an F number for setup?

That's weird and very inconvenient.

What is the model of the pc ?

got it all fixed up. just went into bios setup and made dvd drive primary startup drive. then ran system repair

Great - seems you don't get the pop up boot menu on those machines.
