My family currently just bought my brother an HP Intel Core i3-330UM Processor Laptop. Everything was fine until we tried to connect to our home wireless. I do not know what is causing this problem. I was looking around on google and I saw that Windows 7 may not be compatible with our old router. Is this the issue? What recourse do I have to fix this? Is there something I can do with the router (Linksys) or do we have to purchase a new router that is windows 7 compatible?

Thank you for your help

Its not the router.

Are you using homegroup?

Have you updated the wifi driver?

Can we get your system specs and network setup?

Your notebook has wi-fi adapter for b/g/n. So that's not a problem. You want to make sure your wi-fi is enabled. Check this in the bios. PLUS, you should be able to see your neighbors' wi-fi networks. If your neighbors have wi-fi and you can't see them, then the problem is with the adapter/computer. If you can see other wi-fis, then it's the wireless router.

Please let us know the case.

And, as ZigZag said, give us the name AND model of your router.

**EDIT** make and model of computer as well.

Does the laptop have a little slide switch for wireless?

Note: Most HP Notebook PCs have wireless devices built-in. To turn on the built-in device, simply press the wireless power button on your PC which will have the universal symbol for Wi-Fi (shown here on the left) and illuminate with a blue light.

Yeah, my dell has the option of sliding to turn on/off wi-fi, bluetooth, etc. Options are set from the bios, but enabled/disabled with the side switch. Good point!

In my HP laptop the WiFi broke and I had to resort to a dongle. If you can borrow one, I would check it out.

1. Make sure your wifi is turned on
2. Make sure your router doesn't have a password and if so you are entering it correctly
3. make sure your router is broadcasting
4. check all router settings. Check channel too

Otegar,
Welcome to SevenForums.

Ok, let's knock off one of the easy ones first:
WIN X key combo | in the Wireless Network section, IF you see "Turn Wireless On", then click on it.

WIN is the key with the wavy flag.

I'd mention the slider at the front or side of your laptop, but I see that's already been mentioned.

So let's try the built-in Windows Troubleshooter

WIN | type Troubleshooting | click on Troubleshooting in the Control Panel section. | click on Network and Internet

==========================================

Another approach:
right-click on the network icon in the system tray (bottom right) and choose Troubleshoot Problems

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
Have you clicked on the network connection icon in the bottom-right System Tray to see if networks are available to connect? If so, then rightclick on the icon and run Troubleshooter which actually fixes things in Win7.

If no networks connections are available, rightclick to Open Network & Sharing to look at Adapter settings. Is Wireless connection enabled? If not, enter Device Manager>Network Adapters and install or update the driver for Wireless adpater.

If your notebook is less than one year old contact HP 800-474-6836.
