I am on IE 11 and have been since it was released. Also, I open 4 tabs when IE starts, outlook.com being one of them. I've been doing this for a few years.
Starting within the last couple of months I started experiencing various "could not access, try again later", "page not found" errors, random long delays and, worst of all, the browser would get into a state where it would not refresh any pages - when the tab is selected or even when refresh is selected while the tab's address is being displayed. When in that state, if I click on another tab it will highlight that tab and its URL will be displayed in the address bar but it won't change the page being displayed. The only thing I can do at that point is to open the task manager and kill IE and start over.
About the only time it has happened when I was actively doing something with the browser was when it was on the outlook page/tab. The rest of the time it occurs after I have been doing nothing for 5-10 minutes or have been away from the outlook page that long.
I have disabled Norton Security Suite -- a/v and firewall -- and it made no difference. I then tried the Google Chrome browser but it would do the same thing.
As I said, this has been going on for a couple of months and during that time I have come more and more to suspect that its related to the outlook site. About a week ago it quit displaying the outlook page unless I disabled the Norton toolbar. But, again as I said earlier, completely removing Norton did not change the random semi-freezing symptom.
Since more and more things were starting to point to the outlook site I removed it as one of my home page tabs and quit using the browser to read my email. The semi-freeze symptom has not reoccurred. Since the problems first started it has never gone this long without "page freezing".
I've googled this issue and have found a lot of similar/related threads but none of them have ended with an aha moment and a solution.
Is anyone familiar with this issue and what I need to do [besides quitting using web mail] to fix the problem?
Thanks in advance...
