Browser slow to open

Moved from Vista to W7 supposedly successfully. After a week or so of satisfactory operation the browser windows started to become slow to open. After having taken 2 or 3 seconds to open having clicked on the explorer icon it suddenly became 15. Likewise opening a JPEG with exploer or the "computer" window. Once explorer is open, then browsing webpages is normal speed, until I have to click a link to open a new window and the same problem occurs.

So I re-installed W7 and the problem went away. All my apps/programmes were loaded, including Kaspersky, firewalls, java etc... and everything was fine for about two weeks. Then it suddenly started again a few days ago.

I have checked and nothing is hogging the RAM or CPU. I've googled and this problem is also reported elsewhere on the net but I have not read a solution.

If anybody has any ideas I'd be pleased to hear them because if this is not solved quickly I'll have to junk seven and re-install Vista which I dont want to do.

What browser are you using? IE8?
I don't know what could be causing it but have you tried another browser? I use chrome because its very quick at opening after clicking the icon, its almost instant. That's why I gave up on FireFox And IE because they always seemed to take ages to start up.
It would be a shame for you to give up on W7 just for this one reason
Hopefully somebody will be along soon and able to help you. My guess is it might be a programme that is giving compatibility issues.

I had the same problem on my old OS. Windows began to get very slow. I began using FireFox and it was a fast or faster than IE ever was. I liked FF and recommend it. You might want to give it a try

Well I just downloaded opera. My first time away from explorer and the problem is solved. Will try firefox as well, for the crack and options.

Not really satisfactory since I want to use explorer as I've always used that in the past and know it. But nice to see something new and have a few options.

This was not my only frustration with seven. My PC now takes ages to shutdown since moving to seven from Vista. All in all not impressed and I'm no further forward from Vista given the way I use my PC

There is an issue with Kaspersky 2010 and IE8. You need to disable the Java Plug-in 2 SSV helper add-on. Tools > manage addons.

Yes that does help greatly DrT. You are the first person to post a solution to this and I've asked on half a dozen forums and done much google. So thanks for that

However, I've been using Opera for a day and am enjoying it more than ie8. But I'm glad to be running properly again on the other.

Not to start a big browser fight going or anything, but I would recommend internet explorer 9. Its very fast, very usable and easy for me, and it helps not downloading a whole bunch of other browsers. There are problems with every browser, and complaints go against every one, but I've tried chrome, firefox, Ie7-9 and recommend 9 above all. Some windows componants require Ie9 to run, and wont allow any other browser. Though you can update in windows, if you update online, IE is required. downloading some programs online from microsoft requires IE (mostly only things that help solve problems in windows). Now, granted if you really wanted, you can have 2 browsers.

In the end, the choice and what you like is entirely up to you. Just giving some recommendations on what I've seen. I used to use firefox a whole lot as it was a whole lot better than Ie8, but since then have switched over to IE9. I think firefox is the most customizable browse I've yet seen, but I don't use too many add-ons (most of them only slow down the browser) and they both seem just as fast. IE9 is prettier in my opinion

I've heard that Microsoft is planning to upgrade IE to 10, and soon after that to 11. Thats a whole new set of features. As well, I've heard firefox is doing some upgrades, but I've heard they are going to be smaller and not as feature changing as some might have wished.
