Hello Seven Forums!

Long-time forum-stalker, first-time poster. Thank you all for the great work you do. Normally I am able to get a solution to my issues by reading other people's posts, but this time I am stumped so I am making my first thread.

As the title states, I am experiencing BSOD errors such as 0x0000007e and many others. The errors seem to be fairly random both in terms of which error code I receive along with when they occur - however, I have noticed they seem to be more frequent right after resuming from standby, although they can and do occur at other times.

I am attaching the dm log collector.exe zip file AND listing the problem details in this post.

Steps I have taken to resolve the issue (that I can remember):
  • Ran sfc /scannow (many times)
  • Ran /chkdsk (many times)
  • Ran memtest86 (twice for around 8-9+ hours each - no errors found)
  • Swapped RAM sticks around to different slots (before running memtest86 again)
  • Flushed ghost charge from the system (holding power button while unplugged)
  • Updated drivers
  • Updated Antivirus
  • Ran Antivirus Scan
  • Went through "Windows Tweaking" repair steps (multiple times)
  • ...and probably other steps I am forgetting right now

If my understanding is correct, you may find my system details via my profile.

Please find below the Windows error-recovering problem details:

Hi Jealot,

What does this Tweaking program contain and what have you used from it? Just to clear up it is not an unnecessary program.

Uninstall Avast, some drivers have been flagged in multiple dumps

Avast - uninstall completely

Hi Axe0 -

Thank you for the reply!

Windows Tweaking is a tool that runs through various troubleshooting steps (such as the aforementioned sfc /scannow, /chkdsk and other things). I have seen it suggested as a potential solution on many troubleshooting threads for various Windows problems.

As found on Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Free/Pro their own description reads:

"Tweaking.com - Windows Repair is a tool designed help fix a large majority of known Windows problems including; registry errors, file permissions, issues with Internet Explorer, Windows Updates, Windows Firewall and more. Malware and poorly installed programs can modify your default settings resulting in your machine working badly - or worse. With Tweaking.com Windows Repair you can restore Windows original settings fixing many of these problems outright."

As for uninstalling Avast: thanks for the tip!

Is this a temporary measure where I will need to re-install with more appropriate drivers, or should I begin the process of looking for a replacement Antivirus?

Thanks again for the help! I appreciate it.

Sincere regards,

~ Joshua (Jealot)

I recommend to use Microsoft Security Essentials as alternative while troubleshooting. Not because of its protection as I cannot say anything about that, I am using Windows 8.1 and never experienced MSE, but for its stability with Windows.

As I understand, this tweaking software should do everything, BUT
Tweaking.com - Windows Repair is a tool designed help fix a large majority of known Windows problems including; registry errors, file permissions, issues with Internet Explorer, Windows Updates, Windows Firewall and more. Only reading until the registry part says to me, this program is not what you may think it is and could cause you so much trouble that you may need to do a re-installation of Windows due to a bug in a really bad case.
There is no such thing as a good program that fixes registry problems.

Please remember:
Only when specific instructed by a special person, like an expert from a trusted company, you should edit your registry.
In every other situation, it shouldn't be needed to modify your registry as it may cause more harm then good when not done carefully and properly.

Thank you for your concern!

My understanding with regards to the effects to the registry is *not* the same as the dangers involved with certain "registry cleaners". This program is not to be confused with a "system optimizer" or "system cleaner" or other such gimmicky program.

What this program does is essentially the opposite of those programs in that it makes sure the registry has not been messed up by one of those other programs or by malware, etc. and *rebuilds* the registry as needed thus preventing the need for a re-install. It is fairly commonly suggested by many IT professionals (if I remember correctly, I have even seen it recommended on this forum) when troubleshooting various system errors as it somewhat automates the processes that would otherwise be done completely manually (although I did perform many of these steps manually myself regardless of this).

Still, I appreciate your concern, so thank you! :-)

I am uninstalling Avast and putting MSE in place as an interim solution. What are the next steps I should take once I have completed this?

Thanks again!

Sincere regards,

~ Joshua (Jealot)

It is a warning, not a concern, because it doesn't matter what this software does with the registry. It does something and the 'something' part is the part the user needs to be aware of.

Test your system and let me know how it goes ;)

Alright, I will test the computer by way of using it normally as I have not identified a way to consistently reproduce the BSOD. I shall give it a few days and try to report back soon if nothing happens (or sooner if the computer experiences another BSOD).

Thanks again!

Today my computer experienced another BSOD while writing an email in Chrome. Nothing else was running aside from perhaps another tab or two. DM log collector zip file is attached. Any thoughts on this one?

Thank you, Axe0 and no worries - I completely understand being busy. :-)

I ran MemTest86 (not the + version). My understanding is that the + version is no longer supported or updated and the regular MemTest86 is the more current version. Do you know if this is true?

As for Safe Mode, since the problem is very random and can go days between occurrences, I would maybe have to leave the computer in Safe Mode for a week or more which could be rather inconvenient (unless there is a way to make Safe Mode more functional?). Is there possibly another method I could use to test or use Safe Mode in a way that would not affect normal use of the computer?

Thank you again!

~ Joshua

About MemTest86+, yes that is true, but with DDR3 it is better then MemTest86.

Unless there is a patern we can find for the bluescreens, it would be difficult to find a way for safe mode that wouldn't affect the normal use.
