BSOD 0x00000124 Hardware issue

OK, depending on what CPU Cooler you have and where it is plugged in, BIOS showing the CPU fan as not spinning is not uncommon. Some of the fan headers and the fan wires are not able to read whether it is spinning.

Can you boot into BIOS?

It is the same hard drive, and OS.

I had checked the connection 3-4 times. Once I replaced the cpu fan, it now shows normal rpms. I will try your advice of the live Linux

By chance could you put what power supply is in your system in your (My System Specs).
Some of the older ones had a voltage selector switch on the back that could be set wrong. Boy I'm I reaching for straws, but you and Steve have covered just about everything else.

have you gone into bios and checked the sata controller and set optimized defaults like I suggested above? Do you know what your sata controller was set to before you made the switch?

Sorry, it's a new Thermaltake Smart 650watt power supply I bought new, about 4 months ago... 80 plus bronze.

I ran memtest 86+ all night and all day today, 13 passes, no errors on the memory. I'll try the windows repair disk again. I've go a new hard drive coming this week. i may have to do a fresh install with the new drive and copy my documents and settings manually.

Did you set bios to defaults? Have you checked your sata controller and do you know what it was before you made the switch?

Yes I set bios to defaults, SATA is set to IDE. As far as the SATA controller there are 4 on-board SATA connections I am using 1 and 2. I've tried 3 and 4 as well. Now concerning the standoffs there are 9 holes in the motherboard and 9 standoffs, all in the proper place screwed in with 9 m/b screws. the screws and standoffs came with the new case. I remember that bios was set to AI overclock at 10% with all of the parameters being set by the motherboard, is set that to standard.

Which Live Linux ISO file would you recommend, Linux is new to me.

puppy Linux ( http://www.puppylinux.com/) is the smallest download, Linux Mint (Main Page - Linux Mint) is a bigger download but I like it. Ubuntu (The leading OS for PC, tablet, phone and cloud | Ubuntu) is popular too. Any of them that will work well would be a good choice.

thrandall please follow essenbe guidance. I just watch and post at times to mention things I see. Another pair of eyes so to speak.
Steve is off line at this time; might be checking his eye lids for holes.

Set the BIOS to defaults with no overclock. You've let Asus AI Suite overclock the system, take it off and no overclock.
