BSOD 0x116 AT START UP.

Hey..Again BSOD after a long time.This time is during start up without running Driver verifier as before.For a long time system was highly stable and problem just started.I was playing Half-Life 2 for some hours may be less than 2 hours.
My system Configuration is
INTEL CORE 2 DUO E7500 2.93GHZ
INTEL DG41WV MOTHERBOARD
XFX GT 240 1GB GDDR5
4 GB DDR3 1333Mhz

All drivers are latest and bios is pre latest(latest is quite unstable with my board,slow booting).I have uploaded both the image and BSOD Dump files.

The earlier problem was solved my a Microsoft Engineer.He told it is caused due to downclocking of RAM to 1066Mhz since my motherboard supports only upto
1066Mhz.The solution was either to insert a 1066Mhz ram or disable driver verifier.Since there is no shop selling 1066Mhz memory in our place.So only solution was to disable Driver verifier.

Driver Verifier is a testing tool and should not be routinely left on.
It's only for use after you've received a BSOD that indicates that it may be useful in identifying a problem driver.
Leave it off.

Thankyou for the quick response.

When I do Windows Update,it says fully updated and no new updates for my PC.

I have done stress test and haven't got any problem.Temperature became almost constant around 80 degree C.At that time too,system was stable.

I think all drivers are updated.
(NVIDIA,REALTEK drivers).
Other drivers that you have mentioned ,I haven't even heard about such drivers like
amdxata.sys,MpFilter.sys.

How can I make sure those drivers are updated?

The listing of drivers that I provided is just a list of the 3rd party (non-Microsoft) drivers that were present in the memory dumps. This doesn't mean that they were causing a problem.

As for checking to see if they're updated - click on the links below and read the info on the drivers. Then visit the device manufacturer's website to get the latest drivers. If they're not available at the device manufacturer's website, then try the PC manufacturer's (OEM) website.

To check drivers that aren't listed above, check the drivers in C:\Windows\System32\drivers against my Driver Reference Table here: Driver Reference Table (it has a search function just above the table). Do the oldest first and you'll see what's what.

If it's not the video card that's the problem, then I'd have to wonder about the motherboard.
Can you borrow another, known good video card to test with (or test your video card in another system)?



Run all of the memory tests (MemTest and Prime95) on my Hardware Diagnostics page - along with all the video tests (there's 3 of them). CPU test won't hurt either, just in case there's a problem there.

I am currently running Video Memory Stress.Ran Furmark for a long time.No artifacts were found but the system was a bit slow.GPU-Z showed that 99% of GPU is running.

I can give you a few details before this issue started.

I have another motherboard ASUS P5G41T-MLX incase if current board gets damaged.So I have heard that if board is not used for a long time,board will get some problem.So just for checking the board,I uninstalled all the chipset,graphics,sound drivers and then installed new board and installed drivers again.Board is working well and I got Windows 7 deactivated and cannot be activated.So uninstalled drivers again and installed old board and installed it's drivers again.Actually drivers are same(same intel chipset driver,graphics and sound,except LAN).

I had installed Oracle 10g for my learning purpose and found system slow in start up.So I uninstalled it and deleted related files and registries.

Then I installed Half-Life 2.The game worked fine at full settings.It is an old game so my card can run the game at full.The BSOD started after the day I installed the game.I was playing half-life before the problem with no errors.After playing the game in the afternoon,I shut down the system safely.After 2-3 hours I switched on the system and GOT 1ST BSOD.Then I booted again and booted normally without any bsod again.At this I sent error report to Microsoft and started playing the game again for 1 1/2 hour.At that time,my father wanted to check his gmail and I quit the game and gave him the system for 30 min.After that I just wanted to restart to know if it again triggers BSOD.At this time too,I got the same BSOD.Then I came here.After posting this,again I played it for 2 hours.And restarted.No BSOD till now.

Sorry for a long "story".I think this may help you to identify the cause.If not ,Sorry if I am violating the rules and regulations of sevenforums.

UPDATE:Video Memory Stress Test completed without any errors.

I ran Prime95 for around 2-3 hours and found no issues.CPU temp became almost constant 60-63 degree C.Is it safe?Besides the system was so stable and I was able to do net surfing while Prime95 was running in the background.Looks like my CPU is a hero.

A very strange thing happened.I decided to uninstall all drivers I have installed and to reinstall it freshly.When I uninstalled NVIDIA HD Audio driver,system became hang and my mouse stopped responding.Suddenly Windows displayed that it is installing various motherboard drivers(USB drivers,SATA drivers,PCIE drivers,SMBus etc (CHIPSET drivers that I have installed before).So I naturally thought that after changing the motherboard ,perhaps I forgot to install chip set drivers and system ran with Microsoft's chip set drivers.Display,audio and LAN I installed manually.When 1st BSOD occurred,I thought perhaps it is due to Microsoft's chip set drivers and I installed Intel Chip set drivers.And Nvidia HD Audio driver prevented it's installation.That's why when I uninstalled NVIDIA HD audio driver,Intel chipset drivers are installed.

I am just guessing that things described above is the problem and Intel drivers(Microsoft Corporation) are the culprit.Can it be true?

OK, it appears that the video is stable.
It also appears that the motherboard chipset drivers are having issues.

How long did you run the system with the P5 motherboard installed? Was it stable? Any BSOD's?
It really doesn't matter about the activation - as long as you can reactivate when you put the original motherboard back in. The activation may become an issue if you have to replace the motherboard.


So, it's most likely either the chipset drivers (less likely) or it's the motherboard (more likely).
Testing with the P5 motherboard will give you an idea, but eventually you'll have to reactivate Windows.

P5 Motherboard I put only for not more 30min.It was a bit slow at first but later after installing drivers,it became normal.I think so,may be chip set drivers.I mean improper installation.So is it necessary to install drivers only after chip set drivers?Why always Microsoft's drivers are culprits for some BSOD's?My friend had too problem when he bought a new 9500GT and Windows itself installed Microsoft's WDDM 1.1 and he got a memory fault BSOD while playing games. Simply asking,why they are still releasing drivers?

Anyway it is a good news that today there were no BSOD till now.Even after playing half-life 2.

In general, drivers should be installed in the order that the system uses them. Chipset first, then storage, then video, then others.

Microsoft's drivers generally aren't at fault. What happens most often is that they do something that causes problems with other, older drivers already installed on the system. For example, if an older driver wasn't designed for Win7, and worked fine in Vista - it will work OK for a while. But eventually, a Win7 update will ask it to do something that it wasn't designed for (or wasn't designed properly) and that will cause a problem.

Also, Microsoft accepts drivers for Windows Update from the manufacturer of the device (and doesn't require testing). If the driver is bad, then people blame Microsoft - even though the driver was provided by someone else.

Computer is working well now.No bsods even after playing half-life for continuous hours and the game is finished.

So,chip set driver was the culprit.

Is this a common bug?

I see it fairly often, but don't normally do anything about it unless the user has some sort of problem that involves it.

Note that the error refers both to the engine (the core of the program) and to updates. I don't know if this is a terminology problem, but the first thing to do is to check and see if this error occurs after getting the latest updates.

If it does, then the "fix" is to:
- download a fresh copy of MSSE
- uninstall the current copy of MSSE
- install and update the fresh copy of MSSE
- immediately do a full scan of your system.

I have done all that things.

First I thought it might be a virus problem.So installed malwarebytes and superantispyware and found no issues.Then I uninstalled it and installed it freshly.Still there is the problem.Then I uninstalled it and installed it via Windows update.It didn't solve the issue.When I checked my laptop,the exact error is also there in the laptop.That is the strange thing.Then I called my friend who is also using the same antivirus.He is not a computer expert and I just him to check whether this error EVENT ID 3002 is present in Event Viewer.He told along with many errors,this particular error is also there.Not one,many.

Then I went to Google and searched.I noticed many people are having the same issue and this is a common bug in MSE or Windows.

When I contacted tech support of Microsoft(after posting here),they told it is a general issue and they are working on to resolve this bug.They told some bug both in Windows and MSE. Thats why it is reported in event viewer and told a false positive and no need to worry about it.Anyway MSE is working fine but this is strange!.

Till now,no BSOD occurred again.

Now,I am told that I haven't installed "all" the updates provided by Microsoft.So my concern is will it make any issues in future?
But I have installed all the updates and never let an update to be missed.(Except crappy drivers by Microsoft).Most of the updates or SP1 update,I have done via offline.ie I have disk of an SP1 update.How can I know all the updates are not installed eventhough Update service says Windows is up to date.
