Hi all,
In the past few days I have had 5 BSOD's. Two occured overnight and I only knew they occurred because in the morning I saw that windows had recovered from a serious error. Three, however, happened last night. The first was a PFN_LIST_CORRUPT error. The second was BAD_POOL_HEADER. The third kind of rebooted without my being able to see any cause, but the error code was x and all zeroes with a 1 at the end. Sorry, don't know how many zeroes there were.
I am posting this on the PC that crashed. It is functional, but evidently somewhat unstable.
History: Yesterday I was on my PC, literally, for hours. I was using Windows Media Player quite a bit to view saved videos. I was on Yuotube, and surfing the net. I spent much of the day transferring almost 200 GB of saved videos to an external HDD. So my rig was multitasking rather well.
Then I had the first BSOD with the PFN_LIST_CORRUPT error. the system rebooted and when it was up, I immediately went to the internets to find out what a PFN_LIST_CORRUPT error was. I got through half a webpage when it BSOD'd again. This time with the BAD_POOL_HEADER error. I researched this a bit and it referenced possible driver issues.
I have always been from the school of "if you video card is working, leave the drivers alone". I checked Windows Update and there are only 29 optional updates. No important ones. One of those options is a new Nvidia driver. I can DL and install that if it might help.
While researching the BAD_POOL_HEADER error I decided to try multitasking again to see if I could recreate the error. I started watching a .mov file and after about 10 minutes I got a new BSOD, but this time with no error that was clear to me.
I ran chkdsk c: /f/r overnight. This morning my system was up and running when i got up.
That's where I am at.
Can you guys please try to help me discern why I am having these issues?
Current chages: I have made no hardware changes to my system lately. In the past 5 days, I would say the only software changes i have made have been deleting ans stalling Minecraft mods because my kids likes to watch me play minecraft. Yesterday I installed adblock and adblock pro into Google Chrome, but I was not running chrome when these BSOD's occurred. IE9 is my default browser.
By the way: I do not have an extra PSU, mobo, or CPU to run tests with. I do have 4 RAM sticks so, if necessary, I can rum memory tests with different sticks.
Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
