Hi, I recently installed Windows 7 64bit (mainly to fiddle about with the new adobe software, which I am now regretting) on my other hard drive, I initially had Windows 7 32bit on my other HDD, after installing, everything was fine, watched a movie, browsed the net, everything was fine and dandy.
I decided to install and AV, I usually go for AVG as a quick solution till I get something sorted but I decided to give avast a whirl. I installed it, all was well, yet when I restarted, a few seconds after the welcome screen displayed my computer BSOD'd, I tried again, same thing. Tried it in safemode, it was fine, tried it in safemode with networking, is BSOD'd, so I uninstalled Avast and it still does all this. I can't give an error code for the BSOD for two reasons, I don't have access to the PC at the moment, and also the error code changed everytime, sometimes it would come up with a .dll or .sys file, sometimes it would not.
If fiddled for a while, ended up formatting the second HDD with 64bit on it, booted into my normal setup, everything was fine, for a few minutes. Then it BSOD'd, and it does this everytime after a few minutes of being in windows. But now the BSOD message is the same "PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGED AREA". I would post a log, but I can't due to the fact I don't have access to the PC right now, I will in a few hours though.
So, any idea's off the top of your head what I can try? The last system restore point available is one from September, which isn't ideal, but I'm wondering, will I still have all my documents after going back that far? What will I lose? I will try disabling a few startup services that I feel maybe causing it, but I need some more input. Oh yeah, the day before installing 64bit, Windows Update decided to install all the updates available without warning me, could this have caused anything? Maybe a bad driver? Can I retrieve a list of what it downloaded?
Cheers.
My Specs (the computer is 3 years oldish, custom built):
