Hi,

My computer just blue screened at random. It has happened a couple of times recently but after a system restore I thought it was solved. A recent scan suggested the hard drive might be a problem.

Can someone take a look at the attached files and advise me?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to SF :) .

Can you please elaborate on how the recent scan of the HDD was executed any why did it show
the HDD might be defective?

The bug checks seem to be due to AVAST, a registry "cleaner" software, and a couple of outdated drivers,
but before we perform the necessary repairs I would like to hear your response to the question
mentioned in the first part of this post (regarding the HDD)?

I can't remember exactly what the issue was but it was a My Dell system analysis. I'm running it again and it's already come back with a targeted read test and SMART short self test failure. I've attached the results.

Dell's self-analyzing tests are usually well regarded, I'll see what others have to say about it :) .

I would backup everything on that disk immediately, smart tests can be inaccurate (i have one thats failed smart since the day i installed it) but that seems to be quite a specific error saying that a sector of the disk is unreadable, if this gets worse you could lose a larger area (platter) or the entire disk

I would recommend you try out the manufacturers analysis tool on the disk to see what results it yields, but backup first as scans can stress the disk and if its about to fail this will not help !
